Historia
This is a tale of murder. Or maybe that’s not quite true. At its heart, it’s a love story, isn’t it? Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex-movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island.

Historia
It's the summer of 1879, and Annie Fuller, a young San Francisco widow, is in trouble. Annie's husband squandered her fortune before committing suicide, and to pay off a debt, one of his creditors is now threatening to take the boardinghouse she owns. Annie also has a secret. She supplements her income by giving domestic and business advice as Madam Sibyl, one of San Francisco's most exclusive clairvoyants, and one of her clients has died. The police believe his death was suicide, but Annie believes he was murdered.

great story, DREADFUL reader
Revisado: 12-27-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend downloading the sample first. The story is wonderful and creative and the characters are interesting. However, the reader is so awful that I wouldn't download the full volume. Her reading is sing-songy and every few sentences she slurs her words, which is very distracting. For example, 'majestic' was pronounced 'mahjshzztic'. Also her attempts at accents are a total failure - the Irish maid's accent alternates between irish and german and swedish. Very distracting. So, you be your own judge, but I'll never listen to a book narrated by Cynthia Wallace.
How could the performance have been better?

If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes!
Any additional comments?

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

great book but narrator very distracting style
Revisado: 02-14-15
What did you love best about The Winter Sea?
I liked the story alot, I'm a Kearsley fan. Unfortunately this reader is very annoying and distracting for two reasons (1) voice sounds constantly like an advertisement or a voice over/newscaster style. Not natural (2) she puts very odd pauses as she reads which makes listening difficult - e.g. in the phrase "coal stove" there is a pause between coal and stove, or with "not very long" there's a long pause between not and very long. its just not easy to listen to.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Hmm, 2 hours in and I'm not feeling good bout it
Revisado: 09-16-10
I really, really want to like this book. I love epics, and I loved the Wheel of Time series (Robert Jordan). I thought BS did a great job on the final book of the series. But this book? I just don't get it. I'm 2 hours in, and I have to force myself to continue. Firstly, there is just soooo much going on from the very beginning -- but what is very much lacking is any character that you can care about from a human perspective (which is what made Jordan's books so magnetic). So far, it's just a lot of fighting, gore, and imprisonment. Why should we care?
Also, as much as I love Michael Kramer (and I'm sure Kate Reading) I REALLY wish they had chosen someone else to narrate. Given that these are the same two readers as the whole Wheel of Time series, I keep expecting the names Rand, Matt, and Perrin to come up. It's just very distracting to have the exact same readers, with the same inflections, and the same general subject.
I'm really hoping that I get in to this, I'd really like to. We'll see...

Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Wonderful, again
Revisado: 12-06-09
This book was amazing on many many levels. Sure, it is a great story, a GREAT story! But it also reminds us of a time long gone and how people used to live with honor and with little else sometimes. And how things just HAPPEN and it isn't always someone's fault (and although there isn't a lot of litigation, you may just get hanged for an offense to watch out). Then there is the love story aspect. And the friendship aspect. Finally, the AMAZING Davina Porter, who does such a beautiful job of bringing all of these rich characters to life. Let's just say, I can't wait until the next one comes out. Thanks Diana and Davina.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. I enjoyed the characters on their own and together
Revisado: 08-23-08
Jordan does a great job in this book developing the friendships among the main characters and also delves into each one individually. I like it. I do miss Rand as a young man, though, I liked that more innocent side of him in the story. I got a little confused with some of the many many added characters in this book, and some have very similar names (e.g. Caden, Cadsuain, etc). But I'm queing up number 8! can't wait to see how this all turns out.

this was a good one but a little confusing
Revisado: 07-31-08
there are a LOT of characters in this episode. I found it confusing to try to follow all of the different splits and interactions. I loved the parts about Perryn and Faile, and Mat and Rand and Min. All great! And of course Iguaine and Elayne and Ninive. It wasn't those characters that were confusing it was all of the others that are introduced or reintroduced. As always, the readers are great, and when I got to the end I wished it wasn't over.

Lots of intrigue and character development (though I could have predicted what happened in the last hour with three of the characters). A few really great cliffhangers for the next book. I miss Perrin and Fayile from the last book - on to book 6 to see if they show up!

Historia
In what may be her most unsettling novel to date, Sue Grafton's T Is for Trespass is also her most direct confrontation with the forces of evil. Beginning slowly with the day-to-day life of a private eye, Grafton suddenly shifts from the voice of Kinsey Millhone to that of Solana Rojas, introducing listeners to a chilling sociopath. Rojas is not her birth name. It is an identity she cunningly stole, an identity that gives her access to private caregiving jobs.

Great!
Revisado: 12-31-07
Judy Kaye is such a wonderful reader, she can even make "I-who-hates-McDonald's" crave a "QP with cheese" LOL. This is a very clever story and it is nice that Grafton gives enough hints to make it fun to figure out what will happen next, without making it too easy (and consequently boring). I'm 2/3 through and already wishing the book was longer!
