This book is incredible
Revisado: 02-22-25
Honestly one of the best most layered interesting hilarious and surprising books I’ve read in a long time. The twists are shocking, the truth ultimately a little ambiguous in the best way. Strongly recommend.

wow - unexpected
Revisado: 11-30-24
the story played out in ways i really didn’t anticipate, which was cool as a longtime reader in this genre. it was also refreshing to have a female lead character who becomes so, shall we say, morally complex over the course of the series. overall enjoyable! feels like there’s room for another trilogy set in this world in the future…

Historia
In Manhattan, a young grad student gets off the train and realizes he doesn't remember who he is, where he's from, or even his own name. But he can sense the beating heart of the city, see its history, and feel its power. In the Bronx, a Lenape gallery director discovers strange graffiti scattered throughout the city, so beautiful and powerful it's as if the paint is literally calling to her. In Brooklyn, a politician and mother finds she can hear the songs of her city, pulsing to the beat of her Louboutin heels.

Historia
Elsa Park is a particle physicist at the top of her game, stationed at a neutrino observatory in the Antarctic, confident she's put enough distance between her ambitions and the family ghosts she's run from all her life. But it isn't long before her childhood imaginary friend—an achingly familiar, spectral woman in the snow—comes to claim her at last. Years ago, Elsa's now-catatonic mother had warned her that the women of their line were doomed to repeat the narrative lives of their ancestors from Korean myth and legend. But beyond these ghosts, Elsa also faces a more earthly fate.

really interesting story, different from what i usually read and different from what i expected. it feels funny and contemporary and at the same time very deep and timeless and poignant and sad. a lot of sad things happen and it explores a lot of intense themes, but it is also ultimately really uplifting. give it a go!

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

truly a pleasure. the writing & reader performance are both great. the voice is perfect for this story. the book is insightful and interesting, dryly funny, very well written, and also, as you might expect, sad and intense at times. 10/10 loved it.
