Annoying narration, with double annoying background music which was loud and continual. Should have known when it said "in an American voice".

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

Great story, disappointed in language
Revisado: 05-01-15
Any additional comments?
I loved the premise of the story, but was disappointed in some of the unnecessary language--F word and a few sexually graphic lines. They were so unnecessary and the theme of the story was wonderful. I rarely choose modern literature for this very reason. It not only adds nothing to the story, it detracts from it.

A very depressing book
Revisado: 03-18-13
Any additional comments?
This book is very graphic. It was depressing and pretty much all the characters are evil. I wish Audible had some kind of rating system. I only made it through 2 hours and will be returning it for a refund.

Disappointing after the #1 Ladies Detective Agency
Revisado: 09-23-12
What disappointed you about The Sunday Philosophy Club?
Too much philosophy--a little slow--the reader had a grating voice and didn't do well on the different voice.
Would you ever listen to anything by Alexander McCall Smith again?
Not sure--I would if I knew the books would be more like The #1 Ladies Detective Agency
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Davina Porter?
Maybe Katherine Kellgrin
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, it had a somewhat interesting storyline, with the mystery in it.

Historia
As a therapist specializing in sexual issues, psychiatrist Dr. Morgan Snow isn't easily shocked, or shaken, as readers of the popular "Butterfield Institute" novels know. There are times, however, when the need for her services leads her out of the office... and into unfamiliar worlds. In these stories, the therapist matches her wits -and her training - against three men of mystery: Jack Reacher, John Rain, and Cotton Malone.

Our "free" gift listens seem to always be disgusti
Revisado: 07-25-12
What would have made In Session: Dr. Morgan Snow with Steve Berry's Cotton Malone, Lee Child's Jack Reacher & Barry Eisler's John Rain better?
It needed to be a lot less graphic.
What was most disappointing about M. J. Rose’s story?
I didn't get to the part where the character matched wits with Jack Reacher, which is the only reason I downloaded the book. I lasted for 17 minutes.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disgust, disappointment
Any additional comments?
Books seem to be going more & more to a pornographic & F-word bent, which I feel is unnecessary for a good book.
I wish Audible.com had a rating system, similar to movies, so you knew which books to get and. or listen to. Sometimes the reviews are not enough to tell.
I would also like to be able to delete books from my library--much the same as burning one at home.

What a sad story!
Revisado: 01-07-12
Would you try another book from Ann Patchett and/or Ann Patchett?
NO--it was so depressing.
Has This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I thought this was going to be a little light-hearted story about a happy marriage. Instead, it was a depressing essay about bad marriages. I only listened to half of it--maybe the happy marriage was at the end.

Revolting--I didn't finish it
Revisado: 04-01-11
3 hours was about all I could take of this book. I'm sure the F-word was used more than any other word in the book. I think it may have had some kind of good twist in the plot, but I couldn't get past the bad language and graphic details.

Depressing!
Revisado: 04-01-11
I'm surprised in reading the reviews, that more don't speak to the sexual content--pornography, in my opinion. I almost didn't finish it, but there was enough of a story line to want to find out how it ended. As bawdry as it was, I don't think it used the F-word once, which seems to be a mainstay in most modern books. The amount of horrible deaths and happenings in this rural area seemed totally unrealistic. Some complained about the narration, but I actually liked the reader.

Historia
The dusty files of a venerable dictionary publisher, a hidden cache of coded clues, a story written by a phantom author, an unsolved murder in a gritty urban park: all collide memorably in Emily Arsenault's magnificent debut, at once a teasing literary puzzle, an ingenious suspense novel, and an exploration of definitions: of words, of who we are, and of the stories we choose to define us.

Mixed feelings!
Revisado: 01-17-11
I liked the story line and thought it was an interesting story within a story. I thought the dictionary business was probably pretty unrealistic. I liked the narrators, but thought the women's voices were a little too similar. My main objection was the use of 4 letter words, which seem to appear more and more in books and add nothing to them. People in my world don't talk that way on an everyday basis!
