Lost me about halfway through

It started off interestingly. Many reviewers claimed that the story seemed plausible. But around the halfway point, some time around the cannon, it completely lost me. I finished listening anyway but the story just became so far fetched I couldn't even suspend my disbelief. And the "interviews" felt more like carefully crafted memoirs rather than the conversational interviews they were supposed to feel like.
Many are comparing it to Lord of the Flies, except the story of Lord of the Flies spanned many months while Fantasticland spanned just a few weeks.
Don't take my word for it, based on the reviews most people feel differently than I do, but I wish I would have skipped it.

One of those audiobooks that I didn't want to stop listening to. As a fan of Dickens (I love Oliver Twist) I was skeptical about a sequel but this was rather brilliant. Most of the original characters are back in one way or another, with a few surprises.
That said, I can confidently say it's an enjoyable listen, with absolutely wonderful cast of voice actors, even if you're not familiar with the original story. I suspect some people may want to read the original for the first time after listening to this.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is one of my all time favorite books so I was worried I'd be disappointed by a dramatization of an older less popular vampire story. Well I loved it! The voice acting was top notch which always adds to the Audible experience. I'm about to start reading the actual book know, which has been on my Kindle unread for at least a few years.

Runner or not I think almost anyone would really enjoy reading, er listening to, this book. The story is gripping and full of real life "characters" you'll probably search for on Google to put faces with their names. It does contain plenty of absolutely great running advice. It also does a fantastic job of laying out the scientific case for why human beings are literally the ultimate long distance running machines, not just a few but all of us. The narrator is outstanding; perfectly bringing the story to life and keeping you at the edge of your seat. I've read a fair number of books and I can honestly say this is my new favorite.

all it requires is that you be a man, a real man

If the following quotes resonate with you then you might like this book:
"Someone has to tell fathers to uncage their masculinity."
"Nice men beware. When your 2 year old daughter has a temper tantrum put her in timeout and ignore her until she calms down. When she’s 16, do exactly the same."
Daughters and wives appreciate "fathers who are heroes… who don’t relax until the battle leaves home, and really not even then… All it requires is that you be a man, a real man."
For me it's the antithesis of everything I've learned and experienced as a parent. The author is basically saying it's a scary world (and here are a bunch of dubious facts to "prove" it) full of evil "pop culture" and you need to man up and show your daughter who's boss because if you don't she'll be an out of control depressed pregnant alcoholic prostitute by the time she's 13. And she's going to tell you she hates you but that's normal because kids are dumb and she'll eventually love you for it. And the author thinks her own father was awesome because when she herself was a 20 year old adult and was out "too late" her father called the restaurant she was having dinner at to get her to come home.

One of those enlightening narrative performances that can only enhance your appreciation of a true literary classic. Can't recommend this highly enough.
