Historia
William Barr’s first tenure as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush was largely the result of chance, while his second tenure under President Donald Trump a deliberate and difficult choice. In this candid memoir, Barr takes listeners behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103 and Iran Contra. Thirty years later, Barr faced an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.

Barr Covers His Butt
Revisado: 03-17-22
William Barr could have shed light on a subject he witnessed but instead wrote a book where his opinions are cloaked as fact. William Barr could have helped the Republican party but his own reputation is all that is on his agenda. He points fingers at anything that he doesn't agree with and excuses the outrageous behavior he witnessed with a wave of the hand dismissal. He accuses endlessly with literally no facts to verify his stance and expects us as readers to accept his views just because it came from him. He obviously hates liberals, the media and especially the Clintons and Obama. His telling of his early life are only marked by his perceived achievements only and never once did he site something he learned through error. He is without error in this narrative. In the end he sheds no light on anything where he behaved questionably in defending Trump. Instead he blanket states that liberals et al are the only real enemy. I have read over 50 books in this space on every side of the narrative I could find...Barr's addition to this piece of history is merely a "CYA" treatise on himself. Very disappointing that such an articulate, educated individual can be so self-involved and colorless. He is impressed with himself and his verbose use of the language which ultimately amounts to nothing but a one-sided view of a dubious chapter in history. He is playing to Trump's base not as a true Republican but as another self-important hack in DC.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Entertainment pure and simple and scientific
Revisado: 06-17-21
Its a wonder how much science Andy Weir can convey and still tell an epic tale that holds tightly together. Make no mistake, this is a wild flight of fancy that stays grounded and engrossing. The narrator is a delight. Few audio books inspire me to walk so that I can move farther into the story but this one had me on my feet and walking for miles. If you liked The Martian you'll love this. A "buddy" story that has humor, daring, understanding and so much more.

Historia
Jerusalem and the Sinai desert, AD 55. In the turbulent aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus, agents of the Roman Empire receive information about a pilgrim bearing an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic calling himself Paul the Apostle to insurrectionists in Corinth. What's in the letter could bring down an empire. The Romans hire a former legionary, a solitary man-at-arms named Telamon to intercept the letter and destroy the courier. But once he meets the courier, Telamon experiences an extraordinary conversion.

Gripped for 700 miles - Excellent
Revisado: 04-14-21
I had no problem with the narrator for this work. The content of the story over road any friction that the narrator might have caused. I am Pressfield fan. I am also a fan of historical fiction. This book is loaded with so many location and cultural references and scenes that are new to me and that I have not experienced in any other book. There are extraordinary characters throughout and violence that is horrific to say the least. Steven does not hold back on describing the grit...be it bloody or just the human condition. There are also many terms and ideas that I learned along the way that I had never considered. The descriptions of travel and Roman roads, aqueducts, policing, communications and lawlessness that definitely conveyed the barbaric times of this story. The religious angle does not promote religion but rather helps shape an extraordinary narrative and a journey that leaves one wondering how anyone survived at that time.

The instant New York Times best-selling memoir from the outspoken former governor - an "explosive" (Guardian) "must read" (Hugh Hewitt) account of Chris Christie's life in politics including his "not to miss" (Entertainment Weekly) insights into Donald Trump. In Let Me Finish, Christie sets the record straight about his tenure as a corruption-fighting prosecutor and a Republican running a Democratic state, as well as what really happened on the 2016 campaign trail and inside Trump Tower.

Me, Myself, and I - oh Trump too!
Revisado: 02-15-19
This is not a book about Trump. It is Chris Christie (who I like) setting his side of the story straight...according to him. It is an homage to himself. He will describe in minute detail what he had for dinner but skim over months of insider Trump information. He doesn't seem to get that Donald used him for what he was worth (to Trump) then Trump discarded him. Trump may claim to be a friend but it was Christie's influence as US Attorney and Govenor that Trump wished to possess. Trump and Christie may speak in a similar fashion (Christie far more refined and experienced) but that the truth is in the pudding when it came to taking Christie's advice and council. There is other fascinating information about the challenges faced by Christie and the trail of his career that are indeed compelling. His disdain of the Kushners and anyone who has no experience with politics is apparent but don't expect one single bit of ah ha moments concerning Trump.

Historia
In this incisive memoir, Steve Lukather tells the complete Toto story. He also lifts the lid on what went on behind the closed studio doors, shedding light on the unique creative processes of some of the most legendary names in music: from Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, and Elton John to Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, and Aretha Franklin. Lukather’s extraordinary tale also encompasses the dark side of stardom and the American Dream. Frank, engaging, and often hilarious, The Gospel According to Luke is no ordinary rock memoir.

An Absolute Must
Revisado: 09-19-18
I cannot recommend this book enough. Even better than reading it though is listening to Steve tell it. This is dense material meaning there is so much reference to the music scene and name dropping that it will make your head spin with delight. Luke fleshes out the LA music scene story (according to his experience) that pieces together a gigantic historic music puzzle. There is far too much to comment on in this book...every page has something else that helps define what was going on in the world of music at one of its most formative times. I love his irreverence as it it always treads between the raunchy humor, honesty and introspection. Steve is what he is and there is no pretense about him. Musicians who want to make it in the music business would do well to hear Steve's story because it demonstrates the odds against making it, the incredible contacts it takes and the shear amount of discipline it takes to be "successful". Perhaps I will write another review later after hearing this again several times but for now my heart beats with the rhythm of this book as does my entire generation and my children's generations as well.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

OK, I Guess
Revisado: 07-23-18
The characters and performance are the most interesting aspects of this book which is a good thing. The mystery of the building gets incredibly hoakie and derivative of other books and stories. When we slipped into other dimensions and try to tie other legends into the narrative the book falls apart. The performance by the narrator is exceptional though. The detail and excellent textures set-up, evaporate when the book shifts into the fantastic. Gone is the engaging detail and we are subjected to silliness that simply has been done better. Dragging in Lovecraft threads tried my patience and made me believe the author bent to popular themes for sales. Not that I mind sales...its just that the big moments were cliches.

Revisado: 07-11-17
Any additional comments?
Elizabeth Warren's perspective is a valuable addition to anyone's political point of view...especially compelling in today's surreal political environment. Of course it is biased in its own way and must be digested with other points of view. For the common man, Elizabeth points to highly inflammatory realities that affect us now and will have far reaching effect in the future. Her personal reading of her writings draws the listener into some insights that might not be present reading just the words in a book. Recommended.

Three is NOT Necessarily the Charm
Revisado: 07-17-16
Any additional comments?
At least this book wraps up the trilogy and for that I am happy. The first two books were excellent...excellent! This was interesting and framed events in coherent way but always stayed in an observation mode. The author's excellent writing was hampered by the leaps forward in time and place. There are many familiar names and places but never an engaging , descriptive sense of the world they lived in.

Less than ICE LIMIT - Come on Guys - dig deeper
Revisado: 07-17-16
Any additional comments?
I hate giving some of my favorite authors yet another medium review. They set their own high bar of storytelling but seemed to have lost their way. The first ICE LIMIT story was brilliant. provocative and engaging. This new story is derivative, predictable and never rises above mediocre. I was waiting for a twist or information that would fling open the door of wow...as the first book did...but it never arrived. I am glad to have the opportunity to continue on the ICE LIMIT trail...but Gideon is a silly character and the story is B or C sci fi. Come on Guys
