Historia
Among the cast of this groundbreaking saga are the lovelorn residents of 28 Barbary Lane: the bewildered but aspiring Mary Ann Singleton; the libidinous Brian Hawkins; Mona Ramsey, still in a'60s trance; Michael "Mouse" Tolliver, forever in bright-eyed pursuit of Mr. Right; and their marijuana-growing landlady, the indefatigable Mrs. Madrigal.

Worst. Narration. Ever.
Revisado: 11-01-22
I'm sure the stories are lovely; I loved the TV adaptation. The narration just got in the way. So bad it's too boring to even fall asleep to.
Authors should really consider sticking to what they do best and leaving the rest to the professionals.

Historia
Russell Tovey reads the story of the handsome and spirited horse, Black Beauty. 'I hope you will grow up gentle and good, and never learn bad ways; do your work with a good will, lift your feet up well when you trot, and never bite or kick...' So says Black Beauty's mother when he is a very young colt, and he never forgets her advice. This is the story of the horse's adventures and the disappointments and joys that surround him, from his carefree early days on an English farm with his mother, to his difficult life pulling cabs in London and finally his happy retirement in the country.

They've abridged the life out of this story
Revisado: 02-21-22
Don't bother with this version. It's horrible and a very poor reflection on the original book.

So boring
Revisado: 02-03-22
The writer is now obviously getting paid by the word and has his eye on a shiny new Maserati. The good bits take up about a quarter of the book, the rest is conversations with complicated political or historical exposition that add very little to the story. The only really good thing about this book is the narrator.

Historia
Geralt the Witcher has fought monsters and demons across the land, but even he may not be prepared for what is happening to his world. The kings and armies are manoeuvring for position, each fearing invasion from across the river, each fearing their neighbours more. Intrigue, dissent and rebellion are on all sides. The Elves and other non-humans are still suffering under decades of repression, and growing numbers join the commando units hidden deep in the forest, striking at will and then dissolving into the trees.

Best narrator ever!
Revisado: 12-13-21
Another wonderful Witcher book, this one with a bit more fictional politics, and we see more character depth developing in our main favourites. Peter Kenny's narration made the tedium of the politics a whole lot more palatable. He is a genius and perfect for this series!

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Historia
Goldengrove’s towers and twisted chimneys rose at the very edge of the peaceful Weald, a stone’s throw from the poisonous marshes and merciless waters of Rye Bay. Young Tabby Palethorp had been running wild there, ever since her mother grew too ill to leave her room. I was the perfect choice to give Tabby a good English education: thoroughly respectable and far too plain to tempt her lonely father, Sir Kit, to indiscretion. I knew better than to trust my new employer with the truth about my past. But knowing better couldn’t stop me from yearning for impossible things.

Historia
This is a darkly hilarious coming-of-age novel and a richly plotted suspense tale told through the distinctive voice of its heroine, Blue van Meer. After a childhood spent moving from one academic outpost to another with her father, Blue is clever and possessed of a vast lexicon of knowledge. But when a drowning and the shocking death of a teacher lead to a confluence of mysteries, Blue is left to make sense of it all with only her gimlet-eyed instincts and cultural references to guide - or misguide - her.

Boring, pretentious, irritating, and very pleased with its abundance of metaphors and self-consciously "innovative" descriptive writing. Eugh.
