Historia
In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive.

Riveting performance
Revisado: 06-21-22
This is a great story that could have gotten lost IF the performance was not executed well.
Actress bounces beautifully between the various characters, capturing the voice, tone, and dialect of each character in their given language(s). Each character was fully developed by a pristine representation of their persona. It was like listening to a play!
Well done, great story and I couldn’t wait to return each time.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Wonderful performance & great characters
Revisado: 04-02-22
Blair Brown stretches to truly embrace the beautifully intrinsic nature of each character. Well done!
Gilbert continues her great level of detail and character development; however, the time and attention to developing each sector of Vivian’s life seems poorly weighted and comes off feeling rushed at times and slow on others.
Overall a nice, feel good story.

Historia
Meet Simone, the bohemian transfer student from London, who is thrust into the strange new reality of an American high school; Mallory, the hypercompetitive queen bee; and Stephen, the first-generation genius who struggles with crippling self-doubt. Each one is shocked when a popular classmate takes his own life...except not too shocked. It's happened before. With so many students facing their own demons, can they find a way to save each other - as well as themselves?

Good storyline but confusing performances
Revisado: 08-14-21
Overall, the storyline was good. A bit junior and better for the teen/tween audience but valuable just the same.
With the intermingling of the character conversations it becomes difficult to follow along w/ the story (I.e. Simone talking to Kent but performing Kent’s voice). I didn’t know if there was an inner monologue or if the experience was a direct conversation.

The plot/storyline, performance, articulation of each character and descriptive prose that made me feel like I was actually there….it brought tears to my eyes.

Strong & Powerful
Revisado: 03-17-21
From performance to story to character development this book strikes an incredible balance of racial tensions and challenges. I thought the piece was well-researched and heartfelt w/o being over done. Picoult has placed herself in a position of interpretation and understanding w/o preaching, all while satisfying the non-fiction readers desire to be ‘swept away’.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Rosamund Pike brings Austen’s character to life
Revisado: 02-13-21
One of my favorite books, so I was ready to not like it. I was wrong! Her performance gives depth to the personality and has the listener truly believe in the distinct characters. A true joy and I will listen to it again.
