After struggling to finish the first book in this series I almost didn’t try this one. I’m so glad I did. The narration in the first book was really bad but having this as a duet made all the difference. Both narrators were great, character development was well done and the story line and issues involved were really held my interest right the way through. Now on to the next in the series 😊

The author has created main characters who are so likeable and relatable that the only thing that could make this book more enjoyable is having great actors narrate their story. Tim Paige and especially Iggy Toma were the perfect choice.
Burlington Vermont is my favourite “place” and I hope there are more stories coming in this series.

Mismatched narrator’s spoiled this listen

I was hoping that I this sequel to White Noise would have remedied the narration issue it had and which I found very disappointing. But this story also has an interesting story line with likeable characters spoiled by one of the narrators.
If the whole thing had been narrated by Joel Leslie I would have given it 5 stars. However I found David George’s narration here very wooden with little inflection and almost no definition between characters. The jarring change between the 2 narratives was distracting an annoying, spoiling an otherwise enjoyable listen.
I’m still undecided whether I should risk a credit on Book 3 - I would like to know Arlo and Jack’s story though …

This wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable if it had been performed by anyone other than Gary Furlong. His facility with accents is amazing and adds so much depth to anything he does.

Would have enjoyed this so much more with a different female narrator

Joe Arden is his usual lovely self with Knox in this book but I struggled to get to the end of this solely due to the grating, at times almost frenetic and overly dramatic female narration. I won’t be re-reading this title or recommending it unless it’s re-recorded with a different female voice.

I love Jay Hogan’s natural writing style and relatable story lines. Add Gary Furlong’s narration that brings all the characters and plot lines to life and you have a compelling combination that you’ll find very hard to beat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It took me quite a few chapters to feel comfortable with the writing style and the seemingly superficial and unconnected elements of the story. But I like Richard Osman and wanted to see what he had to offer in terms of fiction. I’m so glad I did because this is one of the best books I’ve read. The writing is crisp and the characters are engaging. The story has so many elements that I thought it would be difficult to follow all the twists and turns but I needn’t have worried. Through some wonderful writing techniques (which are very interestingly discussed in the author interview at the end of the story) everything flows smoothly, there’s no forced conclusions to any situation and everything is brought together at the end.
Leslie Manville’s narration is amazing and adds extra dimensions to this whole experience.
Can’t recommend this enough!

It’s strange to be calling this an almost historic detective novel when so much of the social and technological background resonates with me. No cell phones or computers? However did we cope!
This was a fun story, predictable at times but keep in mind it is a product of another era and there are enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. And of course there’s the wonderful Susan Erickson bringing it all to life.

A well written, totally involving story with well developed characters and brought beautifully to life by Tom Taylorson, an amazing narrator who made me feel as though I was part of the action. Can’t wait for the next book.

This is just as much fun as the first in the series. Helen McAlpine has a magical ability creating so many different characters, bringing them all to life and drawing us into the story.
