Loved every minute- this narrator was incredible. I usually like books in spite of poor reader performance tbh. But all the hunger games audio books have readers who enhance the experience.

My fave parts were the ones where he describes trucking life- fascinating book! I’m seeing the highways differently now

I loved the book! The “man voice” from the reader was distracting but when she was just straight up reading it was good. I loved the chapter on the branch Dravidians and the one on insects

I loved this! I’m a doctoral level healthcare provider, and SO much of this rang true. This is such an important book because Dr M is so senior he’s in a position to call out blind adherence to dogma and cronyism (and name names!) This book has some upsetting chapters, esp if you’ve had a traumatic birth experience, but other times it is laugh out loud funny. I really liked that Dr M read it himself too!

While I object to the use of the word “smartest” in the title, Ripley does a good scholarly analysis of variations in PISA results. I don’t agree with all of her conclusions based on the research but found her arguments interesting and thoughtful. The stories of actual students were fascinating. Great read!

We listened to this on the very sad drive home from dropping my kid off at college for the first time. I especially loved the chapter “let’s go back”
This is a great book to put you in a better mood

The stories of the kids were very compelling. Also a good read for parents of high school kids- this book, just like Who Gets In and Why by Jeff Salingo, helps you understand how random, emotional, and unfair college admissions is, and how we as parents need to help our kids focus on getting a great education not on just a schools US News ranking. It did make me feel happy my kid is at Wes.

Though the first lesson and second set were good, this set and the one after mixes up pronouns, adjectives, and verb tenses too quickly without explaining any grammar rules (they do stop to explain numbers and articles but for some reason never verbs!) For example, they never explain verb negation or where to place adverbs in a statement vs a question. They do a lot of repeating words like beer and wine, not nearly enough to help with verbs and negation. They also skip around too fast, such as introducing a new verb or adjective, then abruptly shifting back to numbers over and over again before you have time to understand the grammar pattern. If all you want to do is order beer and wine and figure out your change this is for you because 17 lessons in that’s been the primary focus (that and for some reason learning to contradict women is part of almost every lesson!)
