Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it—George Santayana.

Ethel Rosenberg: An American Tragedy by Anne Sebba is drenched with warnings (and yes, tragedy) in this most heartbreaking, gripping, and lacerating view on the Rosenberg case that’s I’ve read (and I’ve read much about this time in history.) The narrator does the best kind of job narrating: she disappears in the best way to let the words shine through.

I always liked Arkin the actor--now I have great respect for Arkin the man. This look at the 'searching' side of him, of his mind, his quest for learning & peace fascinated me.
