Historia
Tracee is a runaway bride and kleptomaniac. Lana's an audacious beauty and a recovering alcoholic. Rita is a holy-roller minister's wife, desperate to escape her marriage and discover whether she actually has a mind of her own.
One warm summer's night, these three women go on the lam together. Their car breaks down on a rural highway in North Carolina, and they're forced to seek shelter in a seemingly abandoned nightclub - which is where they meet Marcel. And soon everything changes.

Wonderfully touching book. Now one of my faves!
Revisado: 04-16-19
How can one pack so many human emotions into just one book. Delia Ephron is a genius of soul searching with happy endings. Loved it. After reading her 3rd book, Ephron is now undesputably one of my favorite writers. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be at the edge of your seat, finding that you can't possibly wait another moment for what happens next.
I just wished the narrator was not rushing so much. Maybe she just could not wait to tell the story? I had to slow down the speed by at least 10% to get to normal, also I could not distinguish between any of the female voices, but maybe it's just me. Anyway, thanks so much for many hours of listening enjoyment.

What did you love best about Pen Pals?
Prison - did not think I would enjoy this subject. Instead I did not want the book to end.
The story is told from the perspective of 3 women. I was sure these were 3 distinct women recording their voices. Outstanding narration of just 1 fooled me completely. You would be anxious with anticipation, cry tears of joy and sadness, and root for these women as if they are your friends. Author touches a nerve inside your soul, the way only few talented writers can do. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So depressing!
Revisado: 12-17-17
What disappointed you about Five Short Stories by Women?
The performances are great, but the stories are so depressing you want to hang yourself. Morgue, cemetery, abuse, one story is more "cheerful" than the next. If you were in a good mood, you wouldn't be for long after listening to this book.
