Every book in the series gets better and more organized. The battles in this book were a primary focus, being narrated to full choreography. There were a number of twists and permanent changes in cast which brought a glint of reality; plot armor doesn't exist in the real world, which the author is presenting as such. It answers many questions from earlier books but leaves just enough open ended for the next book.

Words and concepts are perfect for adolescent readers, ages 12 & up, similarly to the first book. That said, I fully enjoyed it as an adult reader.

Michele's performance of character voices has been consistent throughout the series and is certainly an asset to the work Keira has created.

I highly recommend this series and this author for adolescent and adult readers alike. I look forward to following Zaria and her friends on their adventures; now someone get Aleks some another plate of food, already.
Highly Recommended.

What made the experience of listening to Zaria Fierce and the Enchanted Drakeland Sword the most enjoyable?

Michelle's characterization of the creatures brought the world to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hector, he's always there when you need him and knows much more than he lets on.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the interaction with the giants.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Though I started listening on my speakers at home, I felt compelled to pop in my headphones and continue it when I had to leave, rather than wait to come back to it.

Any additional comments?

I reread Book 1 before delving into this book, it had been a while and I needed to reappraise myself of the characters and situations. I was glad I did. Being as these books are quick reads (4 Hours by Audio book, 3-6 hours text per reading speed) I would recommend rereading book one to reacquaint yourself with the many characters that reappear in this book: Human and otherwise.

This book expands the universe Keira Gillett has created beyond the city and forest of the first book; not only geographically but also in mythos. New creatures and cultures are introduced, even character introspection teases and builds suspense for the reader; there is no lull in action or motivation. It is clear that the age of the main characters plays into their roles. None of the kids are experts and they often make mistakes or regret their decisions; It is clear that, though potential exists, none of the characters is perfect. These highly relatable and realistic character traits are excellent for readers of the same age and nostalgic for adults. There is a twist ending that I didn't see coming and I hope will propel the plot into the next book.

Words and concepts are perfect for adolescent readers, ages 12 & up, similarly to the first book. That said, I fully enjoyed it as an adult reader.

I highly recommend this series and this author for adolescent and adult readers alike. I look forward to following Zaria and her friends on their adventures; I just hope I bring "the right shoes".

Would you consider the audio edition of Zaria Fierce and the Secret of Gloomwood Forest to be better than the print version?

The Narrator skillfully brings the words to life. I would recommend the audio book can be listened to alone or you can read along with it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Zaria's strength of character truly makes for an intelligent and powerful female lead.

What does Michele Carpenter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Characterization. She makes the characters come to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Though it could easily be listened to in one sitting, I came back to it a few times without any confusion.

Any additional comments?

'Zaria Fierce' is filled with imagination and intrigue. As an adult, I enjoyed every page. I felt completely engrossed in the world of fantasy painted so eloquently into Zaria's, otherwise ordinary, life. As a teacher, this book is the perfect reading level for Middle School (Age 12 and up) students and up. High School students would get just as much out of it as their middle school counterparts. It's refreshing to have a book focused on a female main character, being able to show her grow in confidence and strength of character. As students begin reading, they should find it easy to relate to her initial timid, awkward personality. Her adventures may even help some students break free of their anxiety and fear of social situations and become more confident in themselves.
I highly recommend this title and the other books in this author's series for readers of all ages who feel that fire of adventure in their hearts.
