Incredibly researched and meticulously crafted. No one does it like Coll. The narration was excellent as well, in my opinion.

Historia
In Inside Money, acclaimed historian, commentator, and former financial executive Zachary Karabell offers the first full and frank look inside this institution against the backdrop of American history. Blessed with complete access to the company's archives, as well as a thrilling understanding of the larger forces at play, Karabell has created an X-ray of American power - financial, political, cultural - as it has evolved from the early 1800s to the present.

An interesting portrait of a family and business deeply enmeshed in the history of the United States. Well read by the author as well.
While still fair to call the work "incredibly detailed," my only critique would be that I suspect a fair amount has been edited out.
Fascinating nonetheless, would still recommend.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Genuinely outstanding.
Revisado: 06-02-22
More than a decade old and still a prescient guide to race relations and understanding in the 21st century. Wilkerson writes in a journalistic style, refusing any heavy handed attempts at pulling on your heartstrings, and it is all the more powerful for it.
Truly a great work.
This is my first title narrated by Robin Miles, though I hope it isn't my last. 5 stars.

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

A Master Work.
Revisado: 04-19-22
A meticulously researched tome spanning the life of New York City's civic giant Robert Moses in all his glory and failings.
If you're looking for a "summary" biopic, this isn't for you. That being said, my goodness what a story. Caro really brings you in. A marathon to be certain, but worth the trip.
Excellent performance by Dean as well.

Highly Entertaining
Revisado: 12-01-21
Crouch has done an excellent job crafting an engaging and entertaining story here. I do think Blake is a bit heavy handed with the themes, it seemed like he was trying to push through the walls of the standard SciFi plot and engage with the characters humanity, which is admirable. Though I'm not quite sure he quite got there, at least in my armchair-reviewer opinion. He certainly does keep your mind full of wonder through most of the story which in the end makes this a very enjoyable read.
The narrator had moments of one dimensionality, but overall I think Jon did very well.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Brilliant, as we all expect from Mr. Weir.
Revisado: 08-20-21
A genuinely fanatic story from Andy Weir yet again. It was riveting and emotional and, what I believe to be the most important feature of world class sci fi writing, it inspires you to think, and to imagine, and to ask questions. This was a wonderful book, and I highly recommend.
I would be remiss if I did not specifically mention the narrator Ray Porter. You blew me away bud. I hesitate to even use that term, because this was so much more than narration. That was downright thespian. Thanks to your fantastic acting, and no doubt the hours and hours that went into this production by the entire team, I was captivated from cover to cover, and I mean that literally. Your storytelling was phenomenal. Outstanding work Mr. Porter, and really to all of you. Thank you for that delightfully entertaining experience.

This is the book the CIA does not want you to read. For the last 60 years, the CIA has maintained a formidable reputation in spite of its terrible record, never disclosing its blunders to the American public. It spun its own truth to the nation while reality lay buried in classified archives. Now, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Tim Weiner offers a stunning indictment of the CIA, a deeply flawed organization that has never deserved America's confidence.

Fantastic summation of History.
Revisado: 02-23-21
I do dock a star because it completely skips over the role of the CIA in the Civil Rights Era. Outside of that (there is clearly a bit of political editing) it's a fantastic read and superbly well researched account. The narrator feels a little dull at first, but you get into it after a few chapters, I think overall Stefan does a great job.

Historia
Why is America living in an age of profound economic inequality? Why, despite the desperate need to address climate change, have even modest environmental efforts been defeated again and again? Why have protections for employees been decimated? Why do hedge-fund billionaires pay a far lower tax rate than middle-class workers? The conventional answer is that a popular uprising against "big government" led to the rise of a broad-based conservative movement.
