Historia
In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

Good story but some negatives
Revisado: 04-01-25
This was definitely worth reading and I enjoyed. However, it was very repetitive in several places. How many times do we need to hear about what people looked like, how their smile was beautiful, how muscular. Over and over. Also I personally didn't like every detail of the trial. This is common with true crime, but sooo boring to hear about every facial expression. I would rather hear more about the psychological aspects of characters and how the family system contributed to the perpetrator's narcissism, which would produce a book with more depth.

Historia
Today it is known as Roosevelt Island. In 1828, when New York City purchased this narrow, two-mile-long island in the East River, it was called Blackwell's Island. There, over the next hundred years, the city would build a lunatic asylum, prison, hospital, workhouse, and almshouse. Stacy Horn has crafted a compelling and chilling narrative told through the stories of the poor souls sent to Blackwell's, as well as the period's city officials, reformers, and journalists (including the famous Nellie Bly). Damnation Island re-creates what daily life was like on the island....

Narrator is Horrible
Revisado: 12-14-24
This is a very informative and detailed accurate of this institution. However, I am puzzled that such a terrible narrator was hired to read this work. This is not a performer and the narrator isn't even a good performer. The voices seemed all over the place, unnatural, overly dramatic, and very distracting. Otherwise, the actual story is very good especially if you're a history buff.

My honest Review
Revisado: 11-02-24
I love to read stories like this perhaps because I have a graduate degree in psychology. Therefore, I love to study human behavior. My review is that I was really impressed with this author and will definitely look for more of her books. Great story telling. Excellent attention to the details of the family from various perspectives i.e. psychological and family dynamics. Great descriptions of the pathology and character of various people. In addition, the narrator was excellent! I will be looking for more of her work as well.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Horrible Sound
Revisado: 10-03-24
The story itself was really interesting and factual. I really liked the interviews with various people associated with this case even though the crimes occurred in the late 70s and early 80s. A big negative with this audible was awful sound. What were the producers doing? First, you have several people being interviewed who must have been wearing cheap microphones so you couldn't hear what they were saying very well. And to make matters worse there is this music/sound effect thing going through the interviews. It was very distracting. I think a little in between sound is great, but this wasn't done well. Overall, I'm glad I purchased this book.

Weird Narration
Revisado: 08-07-24
I could not even continue after a few chapters because the narrator was extremely distracting and annoying with this really strange infection. I was interested in hearing this story but odd.
