Historia
The Adriatic Sea, AD 45. Cato and Macro, centurions of the Roman army, are horrified to learn that they face possible execution after the death of their commanding officer. Fortunately, the Emperor's secretary is willing to offer them an alternative: to join the marines and hunt down a band of brutal pirates who are decimating not only Rome's reputation, but also a critical supply chain. As they discover the true horror of battle at sea, Macro and Cato must also remember their real mission: to recover from those pirates a set of scrolls that hold secrets vital to the future of the Roman Empire. Rome will do anything to get them back....

Pivotal story
Revisado: 03-17-25
A lot comes together and points forward in this story, and is a great change of pace. A new narrator is quite jarring though.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Very entertaining
Revisado: 12-21-24
It seems like a silly premise but Dungeon Crawler Carl is massively fun, a page turner and super well executed.

Fun, but slightly repetitive
Revisado: 01-19-24
Great pacing, good characters and interesting setup, but improbable strategy by the military, probably to reduce the number of characters in the scene and keep focus on mc. Slightly repetitive

Dragged down by poor sound/narration
Revisado: 06-04-23
Great story, but not quite at the excellence level of the two previous books.
Sound is pretty awful though. Narrator sounds like a mix of computer voice and Ed McBain from the Simpsons. The pauses when the story jumps from character to character are also too short.
I sped it up to 1.05 speed which helped a bit.

Historia
Colombian drug lords, bored with Uncle Sam's hectoring, assassinate the head of the FBI. The message is clear: Bug off! At what point do these druggies threaten national security? When can a nation act against its enemies? These are questions Jack Ryan must answer because someone has quietly stepped over the line. Does anyone know who the real enemy is? How much action is too much? Which lines have been crossed? Ryan and his "dark side", a shadowy field officer known only as Mr. Clark, are charged with finding out.

Historia
Nine hundred light-years from home, Major Andrew Grayson and the crew of NACS Washington are marooned in a sunless system with limited water, reactor fuel, and food. The last hope for survival is to go where nothing human has gone before. After embarking on a scouting mission to the only moon with surface signs of life, Andrew and his Special Tactics Team make two startling discoveries. One is a dream: a form of protein and plant life that could save the starving humans in the rogue system. The second is a nightmare: this harvested rock is infested with Lankies.

Top military SF
Revisado: 08-31-22
I love how the aliens feel truly alien, and that mystery of them is stretched out.
It is also rare to find a series where the protagonist has an enduring healthy relationship from (almost) the start. I hope (and trust) we will have one final adventure for Major Grayson.

Historia
It is late summer AD 44, and the battle-weary Roman legions are in their second year of campaigning against the British tribes. The troops' commander, General Plautius, is under pressure from the emperor to crush the natives once and for all. Centurions Macro and Cato are with the crack Second Legion under the precarious leadership of Centurion Maximus, and it's their task to hold a ford across the river Tamesis when the natives are forced into a trap.

Partly surprising plot but a little too neat resolution
Revisado: 11-12-19
The plot takes a nice turn in the first third, but the resolution of Cato and Macros problems seems a bit too obvious, and the conflict with their cohort leader has too much feud ex machine in its resolution.
Cato also seems very little affected by being near starvation for weeks.
And he seems to be strangled all the time. But I guess that is fairly realistic.
I don’t think the current voice actor makes as distinct voices as for book 1-3.
