This is a refreshing change from so many historical novels. It picks up the story from Elizabeth Kingston's "The King's Man" without descending into the maundering cheesiness and historical anomalies that so many books of this genre fall into. I shall definitely read this one again whilst waiting for another to continue the series. Nicholas Boulton's reading is sublime!

We learn the back-story of Daisy and Marcus and how, despite their dark backgrounds, a beautiful love story evolved.

This dark suspenseful story is a great read but it follows a previous story without the courtesy of recapping Book One so I had some very frustrating moments trying to understand the constant references to a back story to which I had never been granted access. A couple of pages as a prologue would have prevented such bewilderment and let me feel more in touch with the protagonists and increased my enjoyment. Even the author's chatty little piece at the end of the story would have helped had it been placed at the beginning instead.

I shall have to watch out for Book One as it still does not seem to be available.

An immature, potty-mouthed trollop manages to snare a rich man, who isn't remotely describable as a Bad Boy. She plays thoughtless pranks to endear herself, which are supposed to be amusing but are in fact silly, childish and potentially cruel. Almost every sentence uses the F bomb, so much so that if this book had ever been correctly edited it would be half as long. Everybody swears occasionally but this was just monotonous and irritating, and not remotely erotic. Somebody please give this writer a Thesaurus and a Dictionary! The previous effort from this writer was much better but descending to the gutter has made sure I will avoid further purchases.

I could not finish this load of drivel, having been nauseated by the child bride, the ridiculous plot, and excessive padding of the prose with unnecessary observations of the behaviour of captive animals.

Don't waste your money! This writer is aping another author with a similar-sounding name, and doing a very poor job of it.
The very skilled narrator struggled valiantly to make a silk purse out of this sow's ear.

The story line is a refreshing change from assembly line romance tales. The main protagonists are damaged and unglamorous. Some readers might even find the gradual development of their relationship disturbing due to the age gap and the squalor of their surroundings, yet the author persuades us that something of beauty can still grow in the ugliest of circumstances. There is neither a handsome Prince nor sexually skilled billionaire to fuel a reader's girlish daydreams here. Instead a random act of kindness to a child generates a feeling of responsibility which, over a period of years, develops into an attraction destined to raise concerns. This was not an easy subject to tackle and I applaud the author for taking us in a new direction. I look forward to more books from this source.

I've been a fan of Kristen Ashley until now. This attempt to branch off into a new direction doesn't succeed for me, it is more like a children's story. The narrator ignores all punctuation and clearly doesn't understand half of the words she is attempting to pronounce, making instead wildly inaccurate substitutions which haven't been picked up, such as cast aspirations...instead of aspersions, Aaaargh. Added to this are a host of varying pitch levels signalling a constant stop and start in the narration which the producer should have cleaned up. Sloppy work which detracts even further from the listener's enjoyment.

The writing and narrating style are both extremely childish. I felt that, if the small erotic component were to be removed, this book would be more appropriately aimed at a younger readership, despite the immature behaviour of the main protagonist being an unworthy role model for impressionable youngsters.

This is a clumsily cobbled-together piece of nonsense which stretches the bounds of credulity beyond breaking point. It contains just about every cliché and coincidence imaginable for the weakest of fairy stories yet has not one whit of humour to leaven it's predictability. The worst news is that it is the first of a trilogy.
