Riveting and fresh

I couldn’t stop listening to this book! The characters are vivid and I was quickly engrossed in the story as it wove around them. It was refreshing to hear about the Civil War from new perspectives and experiences. The reader also did a wonderful job in using voices to make the book come alive. Highly recommend!

Historia
In 2007, a short blogpost by Gawker Media outed PayPal founder and billionaire investor Peter Thiel as gay. Thiel's sexuality had been known to close friends and family, but he didn't consider himself a public figure, and believed the information was private. This post would be the casus belli for a meticulously plotted conspiracy that would end nearly a decade later with a $140 million dollar judgment against Gawker and its bankruptcy. Only later would the world learn that Gawker's demise was not incidental - it had been masterminded by Thiel.

Impossible to put down
Revisado: 03-26-18
Holiday does a wonderful job of weaving a gripping narrative around a complicated story. He clearly lays out the events and intrigue and gives interesting insight into the states of mind of the players along the way. The primary weakness lies in the audio performance. The improperly placed pauses and pacing distract from a masterfully written tale.

Historia
An extraordinary literary work, Dear Mr. You renders the singular arc of a woman's life through letters Mary-Louise Parker composes to the men, real and hypothetical, who have informed the person she is today. Beginning with the grandfather she never knew, the letters range from a missive to the beloved priest from her childhood to remembrances of former lovers to an homage to a firefighter she encountered to a heartfelt communication with the uncle of the infant daughter she adopted.

Achingly beautiful
Revisado: 03-08-17
I'm struggling to find the words to properly describe the quiet and remarkable beauty of this book. Gorgeously written, it moved me and made me laugh and cry, sometimes in the same moment. Most of all, though, each clearly carefully chosen word resonated in its raw authenticity. It is poetry about the beautiful melee of life. Read it immediately.
