Historia
Division Street is full of secrets. An impulsive lie begets a secret—one which will forever haunt the Wilf family. And the Shenkmans, who move into the neighborhood many years later, bring secrets of their own.. Spanning fifty kaleidoscopic years, on a street—and in a galaxy—where stars collapse and stories collide, these two families become bound in ways they never could have imagined. Urgent and compassionate, Signal Fires is a magical story for our times, a literary tour de force by a masterful storyteller at the height of her powers.

Incredible dive into family dynamics
Revisado: 12-05-22
How do they work in people’s minds? How do family stories take on unspoken, impossible weight? How do siblings assume and keep roles? And how can those systems a broken out of? Master class in storytelling

Requires patience, worth it
Revisado: 10-16-22
For me this is the connective tissue between spiritual concepts and hopes and everyday psychological reality.

Astounding
Revisado: 03-28-22
To express the ineffable, sublime beauty of being alive without resorting to dogma, without denying or skipping suffering, without heavy self-conscious teaching—I have almost never heard this accomplished. Ram Dass does it.

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Shockingly good
Revisado: 09-13-21
This book overturned years of feeling behind as a result of many career changes. I now consider daily how to cultivate inefficiency. I feel very grateful to the author.

Historia
Nothing is harder to do these days than nothing. But in a world where our value is determined by our 24/7 data productivity...doing nothing may be our most important form of resistance. So argues artist and critic Jenny Odell in this field guide to doing nothing (at least as capitalism defines it). Our attention is the most precious - and overdrawn - resource we have. Once we can start paying a new kind of attention, we can undertake bolder forms of political action, reimagine humankind's role in the environment, and find more meaningful understandings of happiness and progress.

Fresh, interesting ideas - awful narration/voice
Revisado: 10-04-19
I will have to finish this very interesting book - full of new and provocative ideas about how we allocate and employ our attention in the digital age - on paper or kindle. The vocal performance sounds like a robot, absolutely awful.
