Historia
Nestled in the mountain shadows of Alabama lies the little town of Wicklow. It is here that Anna Kate has returned to bury her beloved Granny Zee, owner of the Blackbird Café. It was supposed to be a quick trip to close the café and settle her grandmother’s estate, but despite her best intentions to avoid forming ties or even getting to know her father’s side of the family, Anna Kate finds herself inexplicably drawn to the quirky Southern town her mother ran away from so many years ago, and the mysterious blackbird pie everybody can’t stop talking about.

I loved the story but was disappointed with ending. Expected just a bit more explanation of the blackbirds, otherwise I was so engaged I couldn’t wait to read .

Revisado: 02-27-24
Five star might be high but I gave it anyway because the story kept me engaged. There was a lot going on but I liked the protagonist and she seemed real.
I can almost always see through an ending but this one really caught me off guard . The narrator did a good job with the character voices. If you like suspense you’ll enjoy the read.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but better. It was a bit slow at first but still intriguing enough I wanted to know what’s going to happen next. The main character is odd and quirky but relatable. I loved this story and it needed to be told.

I liked the Leo character a lot and the mystery behind him. I thought the story was entertaining, intriguing— I wanted to know what was going to happen next with their relationships. I thought all three main characters relatable— even the self deprecating Anne who was pretty funny at times.

I Didn’t Know That
Revisado: 02-26-23
I learned a lot. The history she lived through was astonishing and all she accomplished. Like her or not the book was interesting and I enjoyed it immensely but it did seem self glorifying in so many instances. It inspired me to read more about her for a more objective look at her life and accomplishments. If you like history you’ll enjoy this book.

I enjoyed it. The narrator has an excellent voice …almost like the narrator of Twilight Zone so he was perfect for this book. Lots of suspense and descriptive characters and it keeps you hanging til the end.
