Every non-white character is portrayed as a cultural monolith. Asian zombies with samurai swords with "asain eyes". Every black character is either a smart criminal or dumb criminal. The voice acting of black urban vernacular sounds like neo amtebellum vaudeville. The dialogue of black characters sound like they were written by a man who's heard of black people, but never actually talked to one. Of course, every cop is a paragon of virtue, and every female character is a child or resigned to such a demure irrelevance I forgot they were in the story. I wanted to like the story , because I love zombies. The protagonists spend lots of time killing black "thugs", who sound like slaves. At least there is one "good" criminal who is just a misunderstood white serial killer, so there is some... nuance...🤷🏿‍♂️

The book was an unflinching look at the horrors of slavery. Told through the view point of a man with an unconquerable spirit. Wow!
