Different Tone but Excellent
Revisado: 09-24-23
this title is not as gritty as previous titles and yet the plot is just as well crafted and the characters are just as well developed. this is more of a traditional British style mystery in some ways and Mr. Ben handles it just as adeptly as he has all of his other plots that have oftentimes dealt with far more wrenching issues. very enjoyable and I listen to it in one sitting. unlike a lot of other things I do in my life, 11 hours well spent.

Historia
It was just another Tuesday morning when she walked into the office - young, as I suspected they all might be, another dark brunette with some assistance and enough eye black to match up to Cleopatra. And who am I? I'm Ray, the world's last robot, famed and feared in equal measure, which suits me just fine - after all, the last place you'd expect to find Hollywood's best hit man is in the plain light of day.

Fun plot but frustratingly incompetent protagonist
Revisado: 07-03-22
Our "hero" is a robot who uses his robot skills for almost nothing, figures a bunch of stuff out for no purpose and averts nothing, and walks inexorably throughout the whole book into trap he has to be rescued from. Oh yes and for a reputed killer robot, fails to disarm the opposition despite numerous opportunities to do so. the plot is a mildly entertaining 1950s sci-fi pastiche but not sure that wins the day.

Historia
Philip Kerr’s thrilling mystery series starring private detective Bernie Gunther has been hailed as “one of the great historical crime series” by Bookmarks Magazine. Set in 1941, Prague Fatale follows Gunther as he investigates a murder at the country estate of his old boss, SD member Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich was throwing a dinner party for senior German officers when the victim was discovered - the body mysteriously locked in a room from the inside.

overly complex plot but great narration
Revisado: 08-28-19
the narration is first-rate and the historical background is fascinating if depressing. the protagonist is unsparing in his own self-reflection and on his commentary on the events around him and on the perpetrators and the victims of those events. the plot however seems to have a lot of red herrings to get to the final denouement. Very solid but not his best.

Historia
King Stephen's bloody siege against the town of Shrewsbury has reduced many of its stores and homes to rubble. The townspeople, busy preparing for the annual St. Peter's Fair, complain that the Shrewsbury monks have not shouldered their fair share of the burden. Cadfael, hoping to assuage flaring tempers, is drawn into a worse kind of violence on the eve of the festival.

enjoyable if unmemorable
Revisado: 07-27-19
a fun listen if a little over long. not as complex as the two prior mysteries but the backdrop and the characters are always engaging. plot takes a while to develop and by the end the denouement is not very surprising. narration is first rate.
