With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same. Carl is a dying Vietnam veteran-and a convicted murderer. With only a few months to live, he has been medically paroled to a nursing home after spending thirty years in prison for the crimes of rape and murder.

Historia
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Suspenseful & did not want it to end!
Revisado: 04-18-22
This was hard to stop listening to. From the first few minutes, I was intrigued & my interest continued throughout. There was so much depth in the characters & it was so suspenseful. Great listen. Sad it's over.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Hard to hear clearly
Revisado: 12-03-21
The story was average, but McConaughey take on things was what made the book somewhat unique & interesting. However, the volume range & inflection in which he spoke, made the audio constantly range from either being too soft or hurting my ears. Maybe this is a book that is better off being read.

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Doesn't delve deep enough.
Revisado: 04-03-20
He kind of skims over some things that he could have really enlightened us on, like details of his relax with Suzanne, Jonie Mitchell, and Carol King. It just kind of dropped off at the end. No elaboration on whether he was romantic with Jonie while married, what ended up happening with his marriage, or what happened with his relationship with Carol King. At the end I was more confused about the details of his life than when I started. He is a really great story teller and it's worth the listen. I just wish he had been more thorough.

I enjoyed his message so much. I had never thought of it that way before, but I just wish it was longer with more content and examples.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

My favorite Audible listen so far!
Revisado: 04-24-19
The best book I have ever listened to on Audible. As someone who was born, raised, and still living in Alabama, I am so glad that Brian shined a light on these issues. Every Alabamian should read it as well as all Americans who think systemic racism is non-existent.
