Historia
Evan Smoak is a highly trained former government assassin who has survived for years by keeping his circle to a few trusted confidants and a strict code he calls “The Ten Commandments.” But when Evan suddenly finds himself at odds with his oldest friend, all the rules he lives by shatter—and the consequences are murderous. Tommy Stojack might be Evan's best friend in the world. He’s a gifted gunsmith who has created much of Evan's own weapons and combat gear. But now, he has apparently crossed one of Evan's hardest lines and their argument explodes into open warfare.

Las Orphan X novel for me
Revisado: 03-23-25
Storyline was good but everything else was bad. All the wasted time chapters with Joey’s drama was unnecessary. Beef between Evan and Tommy was also unnecessary and made the ending worse than it already was.

No good
Revisado: 12-20-24
I am a big CJ Box fan. I have enjoyed all the Joe Picket novels. This is an outlier. After about 2 hours and realizing I couldn't get into it, I tried to return it but Audible would not allow me to return it. I tried to tough it out and it started to get better for a while. Although the middle was decent, the very end was awful. The story just isn't plausible, many of the characters are bad, and I did not care for the narrator.

Historia
Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett faces two different kinds of raging beasts—one animal, one human—in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C. J. Box. A rogue grizzly bear has gone on a rampage—killing, among others, the potential fiancé of Joe’s daughter. At the same time, Dallas Cates, whom Joe helped lock up years ago, is released from prison with a special list tattooed on his skin. He wants revenge on the people who sent him away: the six people he blames for the deaths of his entire family and the loss of his reputation and property.

Too dark
Revisado: 03-22-24
I’ve been a CJ Box fan since the first Joe Picket novel and have enjoyed his other novels too.
This novel was just too dark with no fun. Joe is usually a happy go lucky guy who gets himself into bad situations. Although there are typically a few deaths, this one had no humor and went too far.
The loss of a beloved regular character was unnecessary. Injury would have been ok.
Big cliffhanger at the end and will have to wait for next novel to see how Joe and Nate handle the inevitable.

Historia
Tough-as-nails criminal defense attorney Jane Smith is hip-deep in the murder trial of the century. Actually, her charmless client might’ve committed several murders. She’s also fallen in love with a wonderful guy. And an equally wonderful dog, a mutt. But Jane doesn’t have much time. She’s just received a terminal diagnosis giving her twelve months. Unless she’s murdered before her expiration date.

Good story, poor lawyering and ending
Revisado: 02-01-24
The storyline and suspense of this novel was good. What I didn't like was the lawyering and judicial proceedings. As an attorney, I can tell you those parts were far off anything that happens in court in real life. Jane was obnoxious in court, made statements, and asked questions that would never fly in real court. The DA was a little better but not much. The way the court proceedings were handled was also not true to life. Read a Connelly book, which puts a much more realistic perspective on court proceedings.
Jane was also corny and obnoxious outside the courtroom and simply not a likeable character.
Although Jane got the defendant acquitted, I still did not understand the ending and whether or not he did the crime he was tried for, or others that he may have done.
I am not sure if Patterson had anything to do with writing this novel or it was just Lupica capitalizing on Patterson's name. The writing was nothing like the Patterson of old day, and nothing I have seen from him over the past several years has been.
Unfortunately, it left off with the likelihood that there would be more Jane novels.

Historia
Mitch Rapp hates owing anyone a favor—especially when it’s the world’s most powerful crime lord. But when Damian Losa calls, Mitch is honor bound to answer. The Syrian government has created a highly addictive new narcotic that it plans to distribute throughout Europe. It’s a major threat to Losa’s business and he’s determined to stop it by any means necessary. Rapp is the perfect choice for the mission. Not only does he have extensive experience operating in the Middle East, but he’s also entirely expendable.

Don't buy Code Red
Revisado: 11-19-23
Come on! This is not Mitch Rapp. Not only is the narrator not suited for Rapp, the story is not Rapp. I really didn't even understand the storyline. Vince Flynn must be rolling over in his grave. Unless George Guidall comes back, no more Rapp for me.

Story made too many twists about who were the good guys and who were the bad guys. Although highly relevant to current events, Im not really sure what they accomplished. Didn’t like the narrator.

The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. Story was good, narrator sucked
Revisado: 10-26-22
Just like other reviews, the narrator is terrible. She is monotone and doesn't know how to change her voice for different characters. CJ, don't use her anymore. Story was a bit far-fetched but kept my attention and exciting once I got past the terrible narration.
