the characters were well developed and I didn't see the twist coming at all. the story kept me guessing right up until the very end.

Hard story to listen to, but utterly honest.

so, I had listened to a Karin Slaughter book before, a few I guess, and they can be disturbing but only if you've never known what it's like to be a woman living your life.
Being a woman is an excercise in constant vigilance, doesn't really matter what you look like.

kept me awake all night,

loved this book to pieces. Will listen to it many more times to come.
At times I am so cynical in regards to our human race, especially when it comes to the cruelty people are capable of inflicting on animals, that it's difficult to believe we might ever rise above some of the more base aspects of our nature. While I was listening to this story, it was as if my heart was being relieved for a time of that knowledge. The novel actually shines as a ray of hope for what we might become.
And, it was just a damn awesome story!

not worth the hype.

My first review. I was compelled though since I actually paid for this book.

After so much hype and excellent reviews for this book , I decided to buy it rather than wait for a new credit. Don't waste your credit, money or time. I'm the sort of person that HAS to finish a book or movie, no matter how bad it is, so getting to the end of this one was painful.
I don't want to give anything away, in case you also believe the hype, but let me just say that it seems as though the author just took his top five favorite movies and mashed them together into this predictable and overly long book. I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but I figured out all of the major plot twist "gotcha's" well before they were revealed. I can't help but think that the glowing reviews were paid for.
Needless to say, I'll be asking for a refund.
On a positive note, the narrator was ok, aside from a few over-acted and annoying moments.
you've been warned.

I never write reviews, but as a lover of most of Stephen king's work, "most;)" I have to say this is one of those that leaves you sated at the end, not all of them do.
It hits on all cylinders; a love story, horror story, tale of hard childhoods but how love can bring you through some of the worst things you can imagine. I felt I owed my first review to this bool....

I really loved The Martian. This didn't even come close. It wasn't terrible, but it just sort of sat there....
I have a thing where I feel compelled to finish a book, even if I'm not enjoying it. I had to force myself to finish this one.
