Not really. Predictable from the start and no great character development.

Most of the first books of the Vampire Chronicles are good and will inspire you to read more of her earlier works. We should remember Anne Rice for those works.

Great stories can be ruined by a bad reading

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different narrator would have made the difference for me.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Classic Tales of Hope and Courage?
Behrman's masterpiece was very unexpected.
How could the performance have been better?
Well, I feel the acting of the voices was very much over acted. He was loudly over emphasizing words then, for overly dramatic effects he would whisper. Several times, I had to turn up the volume really high because his voice was so soft and then unexpectedly, he would almost shout. I still don't know what happens at the very end of Jack London's "To Build a Fire".
It was like taking Tony Robbins word emphasis, giving it to William Shatner then telling him to read it to children around the fireplace. Very awkward.
What character would you cut from Classic Tales of Hope and Courage?
I wouldn't cut any character from this book.

Great short story but kinda creepy

What made the experience of listening to A Visit from St. Nicholas the most enjoyable?
I loved Jim Dale for all of the Harry Potter books but on this short story with creepy carnival music in the background made this a creepy listen for me.
What other book might you compare A Visit from St. Nicholas to and why?
After this creepy version of "A Visit", I had to go listen to Christopher Moore's "The Stupidest Angel". Its a story of an angel that makes zombies to bring the Christmas Miracle to a small boy.
What about Jim Dale’s performance did you like?
As always, Jim Dale is a delight to listen to.

Tim Robbins drove me crazy!!

First of all, my review title has nothing to do with the book itself but instead the narrator. I love Tim Robbins on screen. He has great screen presence and charisma but his speech style does not transfer well as a narrator and especially not for this story. Frank Muller's speech style plays better.

It might be a good book but I cant get past the poor sound quality. There is a hissing sound in the back ground every time the narrator speaks.
I also have the abridged version and there is no such issue with the sound quality but the abridgment cuts out too many details that make Anne Rice books so enjoyable.

I havn't listened to a fantasy epic like this one since the Hobbit. Its sort of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and your favorite reluctant hero wraped together.
