Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

If you can read that and not get in by the end.. this book isn’t for you
Revisado: 11-01-22
Jeanette….. just wow. I feel like I need to release a well of tears for her after reading her book. Coming from a narcissistic and toxic family environment myself, her words resonate with me. And the title and her life experience and upbringing make absolute sense. This book was validating, refreshing and a reminder that we aren’t alone and there is peace and healing on the other side. Hugs and love and continued healing vibes to her. What an amazing yet difficult book to listen to. She is an amazing young woman and applaud all her accomplishments and am so proud of everything she has overcome . And most importantly, I’m so glad she’s still here.

Too much talk about the sky daddy
Revisado: 11-12-21
I am unapologetically black. I love being black and I love my blackness. I love black people and all that makes us magical and amazing. But her religious chapter about God and that people who don’t believe in him are probably not in touch with their blackness was absolute crap. I can have no belief system and not believe in the almighty sky daddy and still know and be in touch and love my blackness. I don’t need to believe in a complete figment of most of the worlds imagination to be black. So her opinion on that ruined the book for me and I just kind of half listened to the remainder of the book. Before all that I enjoyed it. State of emergency by Tamika Mallory and My grandmothers hands by Resmaa Menakem was much better than this.

Historia
From Minneapolis to Louisville, to Portland, Kenosha, and Washington, DC, America’s reckoning with its unmet promises on race and class is at a boiling point not seen since the 1960s. While conversations around pathways to progress take place on social media and cable TV, history tells us that meaningful change only comes with radical legislation and boots-on-the-ground activism. Here, Mallory shares her unique personal experience building coalitions, speaking truth to power, and winning over hearts and minds in the struggle for shared prosperity and safety.
