Disappointed

I really wanted to like this book but on many levels I was so disappointed. I’ll start with the positive. The magic is cool and could have been developed even more. I wanted to know more about the lineage of the honey witch. She writes poetically and beautifully when describing things like scenery and actions. But unfortunately dialog and interpersonal communication and connections are lacking. She gets close and leaves you with wanting more said between characters. Then gives way to much on the main characters internal monologue. I cringed so hard and so often with the main character and her woe is me attitude. It made me strongly dislike her and towards the end it was hard to want good things for her. I loved the relationship between grandma and main character but also felt like it could have been enriched a lot more. We needed a compelling reason on why the grandmother and mom didn’t try to break the curse. I felt like many elements were predictable but not in a fun way.

I think this other does a very good job of having believable magic systems, normal people with their own flaws, and a good dose of humor. I enjoyed this book a lot

I felt like the sounds and voices were jarring and not relaxing. The stories didn’t feel sweet or authentic. I also felt like the creator had problematic ideas around food and body size that not aligned if you are trying to teach your children to intuitively eat

Sweet story

Overall a very sweet story with good characters. Narrated okay but her interpretation of a male British accent left something to be desired

Great story distracting performance

I really liked this story but the narrator was not great. Idk what accent that was but it wasn’t Cornish and it was distracting from the story. I don’t feel like it was read with the appropriate infection either. Overall performance really missed the mark

Lots of descriptions of gross things

This book was recommended as cozy fantasy on tiktok and I did not find it cozy at all. There is some interesting premises with the fae and their relationship to humans. I also didn’t find the main characters super endearing. The most interesting characters the aunt and sisters did not get enough page time and wayyyyy to much time spent describing how gross things looked and smelled

This was a pleasant listen. Lowish stakes and easy to follow. I think the author did a really good job with their magic element. It’s not too powerful or ridiculous and adds a layer of fun and intrigue

I’m loving this whole series

Great narration! The story is told in fun ways that aren’t too predictable. It’s like a funnier, spicier fantasy Jane Austin novel.
