Historia
Marilyn Monroe, born to deprivation and a series of foster homes, became an acting legend of the 20th century. She married famous men, Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller, and her many lovers included President John F. Kennedy. Her death, at 36, is a mystery that remains unsolved to this day. Anthony Summers interviewed 600 people for this book, which reveals unknown truths, some funny, some very sad, about this brilliant but troubled woman. First to gain access to the files of Monroe's last psychiatrist, he throws light on Monroe's troubled psyche.

Sadness
Revisado: 12-10-23
Marilyn’s was a sad story all-around. This went into a lot of detail but tended to be slightly redundant toward the end. I wonder if we’ll ever really know what happened to her causing her death—she certainly had serious problems in many areas of her life but maybe she could have found recovery. Maybe that didn’t much happen in the ‘60’s. There were so many apparent cover-ups that make it seem like we never got the whole story. I admire her strengths and her ability to overcome rough beginnings but wish she could have fully overcome. Sad story.

Heart-wrenching, heart-warming
Revisado: 11-02-23
With the sad news of Matty’s passing, this book takes on a deeper meaning. I am glad he was able to write this and share his struggles, sorrows, hope and gratitude. For anyone who has or hasn’t experienced addiction, it’s eye-opening and written in a relatable way. His narration makes it even more a knife-in-the-gut experience, but ends with a lilt of hope and a love of life and people.

Historia
Ronnie Spector’s first collaboration with producer Phil Spector, “Be My Baby,” stunned the world and shot girl group the Ronettes to stardom. No one could sing as clearly, as emotively as Ronnie. But her voice was soon drowned out in Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound, and lost in Ronnie and Phil’s ensuing romance and marriage. Ronnie had to fight tooth and nail to wrest back control of her life, her music, and her legacy. And while she regained her footing, Ronnie found herself recording with Stevie Van Zandt, partying with David Bowie, and touring with Bruce Springsteen.

Rock & Roll’s Queen Ronnie
Revisado: 07-10-22
She was truly the inspiration for so many women singers, yet no one was ever really like her. Ronnie Spector was just a child when she began her long career, and her story is very unique in ways (being lifetime friends with Keith Richards, inviting David Bowie over to her apartment, spending time with George Harrison & John Lennon). Yet in even more ways, her life took her through very similar periods as most people of today who deal with extreme loneliness and isolation, struggling with addictions, low self-esteem keeping her in an unhappy marriage, feeling insignificant and stifled, finding joy in motherhood, looking for & finding real love. Rosie Perez reads with authenticity and great expression. Compelling & entertaining.
