On the Flathead Indian Reservation, summer is ending, and Louise White Elk is determined to forge her own path. Raised by her Grandmother Magpie after the death of her mother, Louise and her younger sister have grown up into the harsh social and physical landscape of western Montana in the 1940s, where Native people endure boarding schools and life far from home. As she approaches adulthood, Louise hopes to create an independent life for herself and an improved future for her family—but three persistent men have other plans.

Strength & Resilence
Revisado: 03-17-24
The story was beautifully written while dealing with difficult & tragic circumstances. Louise was my favorite character. She was a survivor. I loved her love for & dedication to her family. I loved how she cared for her grandmother. I respected how her character accepted people as they were but still allowed for their future potential.
I really loved the way the author described the landscape. How the landscape metaphorically represented the people & their emotions.

Historia
This Accident of Being Lost is the knife-sharp new collection of stories and songs from award-winning Nishnaabeg storyteller and writer Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. These visionary pieces build upon Simpson's powerful use of the fragment as a tool for intervention in her critically acclaimed collection Islands of Decolonial Love. Provocateur and poet, she continually rebirths a decolonized reality, one that circles in and out of time and resists dominant narratives or comfortable categorization.

I want more Cash Blackbear books. I have read the entire series ending with Sinister Graves. I love the character of Cash. Her strength, intelligence & persistence. This book was full of relevant issues & very complex characters. I loved every minute I spent listening to this story.

A darkly funny short story about one woman’s reflections on the routes she’s taken through life and the detours she’s made along the way. Doubts and guilt swirl through her mind as she rides the train to her fertility appointment. Each stop stirs up introspective thoughts on her marriage, the loss of her baby, and the lover who got away—contemplations that push her ever closer to wondering if she’s made the right decisions.

Concise and observant
Revisado: 02-14-23
A very concise and observant behind the scenes look at a mother grappling with infertility & the remnants of missed opportunities. Tessa Thompson as always is a very capable & astute narrator. She brings life to her character’s narration. I was thoroughly education by this short & yet deep drive into the world of infertility.

Fun Heartwarming Christmas Story
Revisado: 12-21-21
I really enjoyed All I Want For Christmas. The storyline was fun tempered with just the right amount of gravity. A hopeful story of second chances at Christmastime. The narrators did a great job & I found myself laughing out loud at several hilarious incidents in the book. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Great black history classic
Revisado: 02-19-21
This was a re_reading for me. I really enjoyed listening to Passing. The narration was engaging. The story line once again kept me on the edge of my seat in anticipation until the very end. The writing sensationally lyrical. It is one of my all time favorite books.

Revisado: 01-09-21
Excellent narration. Hilarious delivery of the ins & out of family life. The highs. The lows. The ups & down of every day living. At the end of the day family is what matters most is the moral of this fantastically narrated short story.

The heart of a mother
Revisado: 05-22-20
This book was engaging and educational. It outlined class differences in a way that was heart rendering. You really cared about the characters and felt with & for their challenges. The narration was perfection. Listening this book made me greedy to listen to the second book, which I will download once I have a credit to do so.
