What a gem! I really enjoyed the simple way the author was able to explain profound concepts. His explanation of the nature of thoughts vs thinking was paradigm shifting for me.

Historia
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies of success. We’re told that learning is all self-discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that presentation, or nail that piano recital. But what if almost everything we were told about learning is wrong?

Interesting and helpful tips for better learning.

I will definitely put into practice most the techniques the author proposes. The Q&A in the Appendix is specially useful for Audible users since it's basically a summary of all the techniques discussed in the book.

Historia
Korean Sun-hee and her brother, Tae-yul, must study Japanese language and culture in school. The symbols of their beloved Korea - like its flag and the rose of Sharon tree - can never be displayed or mentioned in public. When the emperor of Japan decrees that all Koreans must take Japanese names, Sun-hee and Tae-yul become Keoko and Nobuo. But as World War II explodes all around them, Sun-hee and Tae-yul wage their own war to stay true to their family, their country, and themselves.

A beautiful and moving story
Revisado: 03-27-18
I really enjoyed how this story was developed, specially having the girl's and the boy's perspective on the events. It is a beautiful and moving story, that even brought me to tears at times. It gave me much insight into certain aspects of the Korean culture, particularly, gender roles and how these were affected by the war. The narrators were spectacular, as well.

Historia
For most of its 5,000-year existence, China has been the largest, most populous, wealthiest, and mightiest nation on Earth. And for us as Westerners, it is essential to understand where China has been in order to anticipate its future. These 36 eye-opening lectures deliver a comprehensive political and historical overview of one of the most fascinating and complex countries in world history. You'll learn about the powerful dynasties that ruled China for centuries; the philosophical and religious foundations-particularly Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism-that have influenced every iteration of Chinese thought, and the larger-than-life personalities, from both inside and outside its borders, of those who have shaped China's history. As you listen to these lectures, you'll see how China's politics, economics, and art reflect the forces of its past. From the "Mandate of Heaven," a theory of social contract in place by 1500 B.C.E., 3,000 years before Western philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, to the development of agriculture and writing independent of outside influence to the technologically-advanced Han Dynasty during the time of the Roman Empire, this course takes you on a journey across ground that has been largely unexplored in the history courses most of us in the West have taken. In guiding you through the five millennia of China's history, Professor Hammond tells a fascinating story with an immense scope, a welcome reminder that China is no stranger to that stage and, indeed, has more often than not been the most extraordinary player on it.

Awesome Course
Revisado: 08-05-17
I really enjoyed listening to this whole course. Professor Hammond is an excellent narrator. If you are new to the history of China, this is probably one of the best courses to get you up to speed. It is a well presented comprehensive overview of the history of China, and will probably spark your curiosity to continue further study.
