Excellent concept cut short of its potential. I’m not sure why the main character went from Mary Sue to Rambo, only to be the first mortal to ever think of his plan, but it felt so rushed. The world is amazing and the details exceptional. The performance was top notch.

Don’t waste your money or time

Some of the stories are very unique and interesting. Most aren’t even engaging. It’s obvious no one edited or polished any of it. Near the end the audio drops in and out every few words, making it impossible to understand at all.

Not worth the disappointment.

While the story was vivid and creative, even for the Splatterpunk genre, but I couldn’t get past the writing. It was like the author decided to randomly pick up a thesaurus from time to time without considering how the words would flow together or if they really made sense. It seems crude and rough, like an untouched first draft. All that aside, the gory, filthy content was pretty impressive. 5 stars for brutality and disgust factor. If I’d been able to lose myself in the story, it would have been perfect, but those random word choices were so bizarre that it made that impossible.

I heard about this book from Marie Lestrange’s podcast (Moths to the Flame) and it was well worth the listen! I’d gladly buy it again.

Excellent!

This book changed the way I see the world. I’m a cis white male and I’ve never understood the complex nature of the minority struggle experience. The groundbreaking value in this book lies far beyond the story. I’ve never felt so much from a horror novel. I read in in paper once and listened twice before writing this review.

That said, the horror aspect of this brilliant work of art is less obvious and terrifying than some other books. The story was unique and new, but the big shock scenes were a bit predictable.

Overall, it should be a must read in every high school in the USA. It did more for me than any class in terms of understanding the world around me.

Thank you, Gabino. You deserve the Stoker and so, so much more.

Hot Garbage

I wanted to like this book. It has so much potential and even the first chapter was interesting, the second devolved into absurd pseudoscience and even contradicts itself. It’s like a Freshman Psychology student wrote a midterm essay while drunk the night before.

Eventually the Crash Test Dummy chosen to read it began mispronouncing so many words, repeating whole sentences, and sounding so much like a confused robot, that it became unbearable.

I gladly returned it after skipping the last 25% to write this review. Save your credit for nearly anything else.
