Historia
Why is compassion so powerful? Like many forms of spirituality and meditation, compassion practice has been shown by research to enhance your health, psychological well-being, relationships, and sense of purpose. "The unique quality of compassion," teaches Dr. Kelly McGonigal, "is that its benefits extend to the one who offers it, the one who receives it, and all those who witness compassion in action." With The Science of Compassion, this acclaimed researcher presents a practical workshop to help you understand what makes compassion work.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Crucial Knowledge yet missing important points
Revisado: 04-17-20
"Looking back 100 years from now, this may well be looked upon as the greatest crime in human history".
That is a quote I'm paraphrasing from Yuval Noah Harari's book, Sapiens.
He is referring of course to the billions of animals who are suffering cruel existences due to our exploitation of them
I loved that Factfulness dispelled many important myths about humankind. I just found it disappointing that it took such an anthropomorphic view. He regularly talks about the "world getting better" as if humans are all that really constitute our world.
He mentions 3 species that have come out of the endangered species list. Why talk about just these 3 when the reality is that there are many species either becoming or going to become extinct, at least partly if not mostly due to human activity.
"Scientists estimate that 150-200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours. This is nearly 1,000 times the “natural” or “background” rate and, say many biologists, is greater than anything the world has experienced since the vanishing of the dinosaurs nearly 65m years ago."
That being said, this book should be a crucial and fascinating read for anyone wanting to get a better idea of some of the world's greatest problems and how we are overcoming them.

Historia
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?

OK but not great

I would have liked more logic based reasoning, more facts and statistics. Tries to be inspirational but the author mostly argues a biased point of view.

Historia
A string of best sellers have alerted us to the importance of grit - an ability to persevere and control one's impulses that is closely associated with greatness. But no book yet has charted the most accessible and powerful path to grit: our prosocial emotions. These feelings - gratitude, compassion, and pride - are easier to generate than the willpower and self-denial that underpin traditional approaches to grit. And, while willpower is quickly depleted, prosocial emotions actually become stronger the more we use them.

Required reading for all Type A personalities
Revisado: 08-05-18
I took notes throughout this fascinating book because the knowledge within it is highly undepublicized due to how it is simultaneously highly effective as well as easy to internalize.
I have since started a gratitude, compassion and pride journal as well as writing letters to my future self a couple months down the line to 50 years down the line.
The book could be a little more prescriptive but the value of the substantive arguments given more than make up for not offering enough prescriptions.
