Facts and not taking short cuts
Revisado: 02-25-24
I am an automotive technician, I am in my 60s and the advise he gives his fellow doctors is the same as the advice I give those I train. Read and learn everyday. I am always learning something new. Whether it be from someone with more or less experience than me.
I also learned some of the things he was talking about the hard way. I was in excellent shape and had a heart attack at 56 years old. It was a congenital problem but the first thing the doctors did after heart surgery was to put me on a Stantin regiment even though I never had high cholesterol. After a year and several side affects I quit doing it and low and behold I felt better and my blood work was excellent according to them. So this led me to start questioning everything.
This book will help me eat better now also.
Thank you Doc.

Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

Eye opening honesty

I am a liberal Democrat, I detest most things about Donald Trump. However I see how he got elected. The sheer ridiculousness of every one is a victim caused his election as this book made clear.
I am a retired Master Sergeant and I got over looked for further promotion due to my views. I made it clear to my troops. I do not treat everyone the same. You all have an equal opportunity to how you are treated. Ultimately you earn how you are treated. I always thought society was much the same.

Historia
What causes a child to grow up gay or straight? In this book, neuroscientist Simon LeVay summarizes a wealth of scientific evidence that points to one inescapable conclusion: Sexual orientation results primarily from an interaction between genes, sex hormones, and the cells of the developing body and brain. LeVay helped create this field in 1991 with a much-publicized study in Science, where he reported on a difference in the brain structure between gay and straight men. Since then, an entire scientific discipline has sprung up around the quest for a biological explanation of sexual orientation. In this book, LeVay provides a clear explanation of where the science stands today, taking the reader on a whirlwind tour of laboratories that specialize in genetics, endocrinology, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, evolutionary psychology, and family demographics. He describes, for instance, how researchers have manipulated the sex hormone levels of animals during development, causing them to mate preferentially with animals of their own gender. LeVay also reports on the prevalence of homosexual behavior among wild animals, ranging from Graylag geese to the Bonobo chimpanzee.

The title is misleading
Revisado: 06-10-23
The book describes a lot about the existence of homosexuality but certainly does not give a definitive answer to why.
I am a gay man in his 60s. I knew I was different when I was a kid and I did everything in my power to change that. I worked hard to man up for lack of better terms. I learned to speak in a deeper voice and annunciation. I taught myself to walk different. I pretended to be interested in girls. I watched what other guys admired in women's bodies and acted like I noticed
I eventually got married had children and came out later in life after the military lifted its ban on homosexuality. I had a long military career.
This is a long story about wanting to know why.
I really didn't get that answer.
The book did give me insight Into not blaming myself and I think it was helpful in proving its not a choice.
The odd thing for me is my family is more accepting of me than I am of myself. The eraI grew up in and the long military career still make me question myself. This book helped.

Historia
Tucked away in Siberia, there are furry, four-legged creatures with wagging tails and floppy ears that are as docile and friendly as any lapdog. But, despite appearances, these are not dogs - they are foxes. They are the result of the most astonishing experiment in breeding ever undertaken - imagine speeding up thousands of years of evolution into a few decades. In 1959, biologists Dmitri Belyaev and Lyudmila Trut set out to do just that, by starting with a few dozen silver foxes from fox farms in the USSR and attempting to recreate the evolution of wolves into dogs in real time.

Intriguing book fantastic personal stories and still scientific, but not so deep in technical jargon that an average guy like me couldn't follow. I picked up so much great information from this book

While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember 20 years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your children?

Historia
In March 1836, the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna massacred more than 200 Texians who had been trapped in the Alamo. After 13 days of fighting, American legends Jim Bowie and Davey Crockett died there, along with other Americans who had moved to Texas looking for a fresh start. It was a crushing blow to Texas' fight for freedom. But the story doesn’t end there. The defeat galvanized the Texian settlers, and under General Sam Houston’s leadership, they rallied. Six weeks after the Alamo, Houston and his band of settlers defeated Santa Anna’s army in a shocking victory.

We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

Excellent insight
Revisado: 10-06-19
I am the parent of millennials and am a rather old full time Air Force member. which means I get to work side by side with the younger generations.
I do have to say one thing this burn out is not only in your generation. I get it also it may be regional for me as where I grew up was Pittsburgh and the year I graduated high school the steel industry collapsed and there were about 20000 jobless men and me an inexperienced 18 year old looking for work.
I worked 3 jobs most of my adult life and have had similar experiences.
Some of my worst experiences though were directly caused by someone like one of your speakers. Religion caused me great stress as I am a gay man and the religious in this country treat us like pariahs. so I had a hard time empathizing with him. Thank you for the insight.
My life is to complicated yo put in this review so just say I had a sham of a marriage and three children I raised mostly on my own just to satisfy the religous. By the way they are all straight and happy but a little burned out.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.
