Freaking great!

Narrators Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley always a treat. This is probably my favorite story out of all the Winston brothers books. This has been the only book I could find so far with a survivor of DV finding love again. It’s a mature grown up, self assured love.
Only thing about it is you do really need to get through 3 books before it (“Beard Science”, “espionage and engagement” and “murder and marriage”) but all three of those books are great too so worth it.

Narrators are great the story is…

I really like the narrators. They aren’t the problem. It’s the story. I have read or listened to 23 of Penny Reid’s books this year this does come in last place. Where as the prequal for it is in my top five. I wanted to love this cuz we don’t get very many mature love stories. Stories that are in the thick of it. But it was so convoluted it became so difficult and annoying and honestly a little boring to follow.
I LOVE Ms. Reid’s “Beard in Hiding” for a mature romance (although a “new” romance) so much better than this. I don’t know. Something didn’t click here. I’ve gotten used to her heavy handed approach with getting a message across. But this was too much, too heavy handed. I’d like a mature love story about Eleanor and Elliott (side characters in Marriage of Inconvenience) over this.

I gotta be honest Chris Brinkley could read the phone book and I’d listen to it so this wasn’t a hard decision to give it a try. Sweet fun story. Clean, no spice… but very easy listen.

Middling Winston brothers story

This is a interesting story. It’s pretty squarely in the middle of the Winston brothers stories not the best (beard science) but not the worst (truth or beard)… it is however Chris Brinkley’s worst performance. I love his voice but my gosh his Shelley voice is TERRIBLE. I can’t get past it. It really takes me out. I was surprised based on his other performances. I take it he’s never met a woman with a husky voice.

Fun(??? 😬😬😬) Romp thru Midwestern Racism

This book is great and important. I hope all “nice” white folks will listen to it. So often racism presented by white folks is KKK , Nazis, Proud Boys bad but everyone else is fine and racism is over. OBAMA.
And it’s like all these funny small and big stories lay out just some of the experiences two sister have gone through. And the audiobook is so fun cuz Amber and Lacey are fun. I weaved back and forth between cringing and laughing.
