Good first showing for the new author

i really like where the new author is heading. Darius Hinks was good on an individual basis but his continuity for Gotrek and Malaneth's relationship was starting to annoy me. Every book they progressed as companions, then he did a hard reset at the beginning of the next book which kinda made the flow of the series disjointed. Trachos from Ghouslayer to Gitslayer especially annoyed me with how he went from useles and irritating to relatable the back to uselezs and irritating. I dont see this new companion following the same routine. Bring more axe fodder. Zangram-Thaz still has a terrible thirst!

this was a really cute story. I was actually amazed at how much I actually enjoyed it. this is not my usual type of books but I'm going to finish this series because it was a nice change.

Awesome introduction to a near perfect fantasy set

Please buy this audiobook. I am an addict and need my next fix of Gotrek and Felix and I fear they wont releasr any more if you manlings dont buy more.

Aside from my own addiction, this is a near perfect low fantasy with some high fantasy settings performed by one of the best narrators in the genre giving a career defining performance. Like seriously, I cant lusten to his other performances because he is simply that good here. Dont know what else to say to convince you.

Excellent return to form

Ciaphus Cain stories excel when they are stripped of all the trappings and reduced to their essence: one self aggrandizing, cowardly schmuck dealing with the ramifications of his own undeserved reputation. The structure of the story doesn't leave much room for outsiders, so the fewer the merrier.
This story forgoes the planetary warfare in favor of (and IMO rightly so) Cain running like a screaming girl from xenos and interpersonal relationships and in doing so leaves you with essentially four character worth note which makes the four really shine, just the way it should be.
As an aside, excellent performances all around. Stephen Perring is insanely listenableand likeable, like some kind of weird crossbreed between William Shattner and Ian McKellen, while Penelope Rawlings provides the perfect snarky yet adoring commentary to remind you that the galaxy does not revolve around the great Cain's fundament.
Please take note, this book is vastly more entertaining if you have listened to "For the Emperor" and "Caves of Ice", while the series require little or no 40k lore knowledge, making it perfect for dipping your toes in to Warhammer 40k. Just dont expect any of the other black library books to be this easy and enjoyable.

I am a huge fan of Marissa and Alex, they work so well together. I just can't help but love all of the books they do. I do enjoy all of the stories they have chosen to do together. sometimes a story even if it's good is only as good as the people narrating them. Great job

Not what I expected

This is definitely not the normal vampire story I expected. It was better and this man's voice is amazing, well at least for me. I have a voice fetish , listening to the story was great.
