Not what I thought
Revisado: 04-16-25
I am a little disappointed. I was hooked at the beginning, but it got a bit repetitive, and boring. I hate to have those two words in the same sentence for my review of this book, but it is definitely not what I thought this book was going to to turn out to be. This story was more sad, than scary. This did give ‘Lord of the Flies’ vibes, but idk I feel a bit empty. I got very bored toward the end with the rest of the interviews. Even if I wanted to I wouldn’t know how I would want this story to end, but this was just lacking. I was hoping for more.

Historia
Amy has terrible taste in men. She's dated guys who cheated on her, beat her, and threatened to kill her, but none of them come close to Mark. At first, Mark is the ideal boyfriend—kind, smart, attractive, and funny. But as their relationship deepens, the charming facade crumbles showing his true colors. He calls her all the time. He gets angry if she doesn't respond to his messages within minutes. He gets irrationally jealous and possessive. By the time Amy decides to leave Mark, it's already too late. He knows too much about her, and he'll stop at nothing to keep her to himself.

A little predictable
Revisado: 03-31-25
I was really intrigued at first, but as time went on, and the choices that the main character was making were not bad up until the middle of the book. Very questionable. I was almost starting to get mad at some of the decisions being made. I was, but I couldn’t be too upset, because I had to put myself in Amy’s shoes. It was hard, but I could relate to her a bit from my past. Everyone always had a different way of approaching situations, and I understand that. The very end, where Katherine swoops in and saves Amy, was super bizarre. Katherine let Amy go through the most traumatizing, physical, emotional and mental abuse, just to get to Mark put away. It was hard to hear that Amy went through all of that. Losing het best friends and all of her close family and friends for this monster. Just wild. Katherine, I find her to be just as bad as the monster that Mark was. I’m sorry. I know Katherine “saved Amy’s life”, but I would be so upset. A little too late in my opinion, especially when Katherine knew what kind of monster she was dealing with. I know I might be reading too much into this, but I’m a little mad at the outcome. It was good, up until the middle of the book. This gave me “wish version of Frieda McFadden style writing”.

Historia
Poe Webb, host of a popular true crime podcast, invites people to anonymously confess crimes they’ve committed to her audience. She can’t guarantee the police won’t come after her “guests,” but her show grants simultaneous anonymity and instant fame—a potent combination that’s proven difficult to resist. After an episode recording, Poe usually erases both criminal and crime from her mind. But when a strange and oddly familiar man appears on her show, Poe is forced to take a second look.

Story was boring. I was hoping for more. It was a slow burn with a big let down. I’m happy everyone (mostly) had a good ending, but I don’t know. I feel that there is so much more that could have been done for this story.

Slow burn, but not too bad of a build up
Revisado: 01-28-25
I am not going to lie, it was hard for me to finish this. This book is very well liked, and I understand why. It was just a super slow burn. There was so much build up. There was no rush, which was nice, but there was a lot to the backstory. I kind of wanted a little more toward the end as well.
