Masterful Narration!
Revisado: 10-15-20
With extraordinary skill and remarkable ease, Ms. Cobb articulates the beauty and eloquence of James’ lengthy, descriptive, stream-of-consciousness writing. With variations in voice, inflection, and accents, her portrayal of each character is rich and distinctive. A superlative narration, Ms. Cobb!

This intriguing tale of secrets, passions, and music surrounding the ownership of a priceless Stradivarius was made particularly enjoyable due to the quality and clarity of the narrator’s voice and accents - French, Swiss, German - to name a few! (I especially liked the father's voice.) Well done, Ms. Cobb!

It's Saturday, and everything is different. No, I didn't go to the market this morning, and I didn't have my usual coffee on Westerstraat. And no, I wasn't getting ready for a new semester at college. Next Monday, January 31, I have to admit myself at the hospital for my first chemotherapy session. For the next two months, I'm expected each week for a fresh shot of vincristine, etoposide, ifosfamide, and loads more exciting abracadabra.

Historia
Best friends Dave and Julia were determined never to be cliché high school kids. They even wrote their own Never List of everything they vowed they'd never, ever do in high school. Some of the rules have been easy to follow, like number five, never dye your hair a color of the rainbow, or number seven, never hook up with a teacher. But Dave has a secret: he's broken rule number eight, never pine silently after someone for the entirety of high school. It's either that or break rule number ten, never date your best friend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and its narration! It takes a special talent for a narrator to be able to differentiate characters in an audio book - especially when there are several male and female characters! Kudos to Amanda Cobb for having made each character in this novel distinct and believable! She did more than just alter voices! Her inflections and subtle nuances of normal every day language made me chuckle more than once. Fun!

Historia
It's no coincidence when Grace Elland finds a vodka bottle next to the lifeless body of her boss, motivational speaker Sprague Witherspoon. The bottle is a terrifying - and deliberate - reminder of the horrors of her past. Grace retreats to her hometown to regroup and tries to put everything she’s learned about positive thinking into practice - a process that is seriously challenged on the world’s worst blind date. Awkward doesn’t begin to describe her evening with venture-capitalist Julius Arkwright.

The narrator skillfully differentiated among characters and captured the emotional essence of each scene. Her ability to bring to life such characters as the aloof Millicent, the gruff old Harley, and the angry young Nila draws the listener quickly into the plot - a credit to Ms. Cobb's talent! Bravo!

Amanda Cobb’s mastery of accents, dialects, and colloquial nuances made listening to this story absolutely delightful! From Hudson’s soft Mississippi drawl and Leila’s slight Texas twang to Stoner Timmy's hilarious spaced-out exchange of ideas and the child Dee’s precious lisp, the colorful characters spring to life in this captivating story of a journey to see the Northern Lights.
