Great Nostalgic Read!
Revisado: 09-24-24
I loved this book so much! It’s a great book that could please a variety of readers. There’s a bit of horror, fantasy, and sci fi mixed with a story of teenage friends and a super cool metal band.
If you love music themed books - you’re gonna love this one! If you love nostalgic stories - you’re gonna love this one! If you love coming of age tales - yep, you’re gonna love this one!
I didn’t want the story to end, and the author definitely set up the ending for a sequel, so I’ll cross my fingers for that one day!
I listened to the audio version, and the narrator, Brian Callanan, was fantastic!

Brilliant Short Story
Revisado: 08-29-24
My introduction to Tyler Jones came when I had the opportunity to read Heavy Oceans last year. I devoured that book, and immediately set out to find Tyler’s other works. I became an instant fan.
Today I listened to Tyler’s new short story Stridor, which I’ve learned he has entered into the Short Smack!
Tyler has a gift for writing short stories that are satisfying, compelling, and sometimes heartbreakingly gut-wrenching. If you haven’t read his short story collection - Burn the Plans - you should check that out as well. Some absolute bangers in that collection! But that’s not why we’re here. Back to Stridor!
This is a short story, so if I say too much it will give things away. Let’s just say I was not at all prepared for where this story went, and I mean that in the absolute best way. My jaw literally dropped a few times - especially in the last chapter of the book. At one point I audibly gasped. 😱
Man! This little book was so damn good! Do not hesitate to put this one on your short list for the short smack. Read it NOW so you can vote it in! This book absolutely deserves to be there!

Unique Concept
Revisado: 06-22-24
This book was an interesting journey. There’s a LOT going on here. A LOT. Several different horror and Sci Fi concepts are melded together to create the story around the main character, Jigglyspot.
The book has some really good moments. I was super interested in the story at the beginning because I thought I had an idea where it was going. But, then it went a completely different direction and I lost interest.
It’s great that it’s not predictable, but it’s just too much, in my humble opinion. I think if the book had been broken into a trilogy, and told in a slightly different manner, it would have been more enjoyable. That said, if you like books with several stories lines and a variety of tropes, you will likely love it! It has some great moments.

Absolutely Fantastic!
Revisado: 06-20-24
Wow! This book is fantastic! Is this really Timothy King’s first novel? What a debut!
The action in this book is non-stop. It’s fast paced. It’s emotional. It’s gory. It’s well written. It’s FULL of revenge, and it’s almost impossible to put down.
I listened to the audiobook, and I would have finished it straight through in one sitting, but I paused it for a few hours simply because I didn’t want it to end. It was that good!
This book has left me with a book hangover that I suspect will stick around for a while. If you haven’t read the this one, bump it to the top of your TBR. Like NOW! You won’t regret it!

Historia
Some art takes on a life of its own. A beautiful house. A loving family. Two kids, a dog, and a tenure-track professorship teaching art at the local university. Dan Rineheart is living the dream. But all dreams must end. When an anonymous painting arrives at the university, Dan is tasked with uncovering the artist. No title. No name. No signature or frame. It’s a disturbing work of grotesque perfection. A work of art...that changes with each viewing. So begins the nightmare. Where painted clocks tick-tock in the dark hours before dawn.

5 Evil Artistic stars!
Revisado: 05-10-24
I just finished Forsaken by Andrew Van Wey, and it has left me with a total book hangover. This book was SO GOOD!
Van Wey described the book as “A novel of Art, Evil & Insanity”, and that really is the best way to explain it.
It’s dark and compelling and sucks you in from the start. I found myself wanting to return to the story when I was working or doing other things. For me that’s a big tell of how much I’m enjoying a book.
I listened to the audio version, which was narrated by Tom Jordan. If you’re not familiar with Tom’s narration you’re missing out. His smooth voice is the perfect partner to Van Wey’s books. Tom’s voice makes me feel like I’m watching a movie. Speaking of, this book would make a fantastic movie! Someone please make that happen!

Started strong
Revisado: 05-05-24
I absolutely loved the way this book started. It was creepy and eerie, and I thought, hmm, maybe PCH is taking a break from extreme! Let’s see where this goes.
I was wrong lol. It’s extreme.
There’s a significant amount of gore just to be disgusting, so if that’s your jam you’ll love it. I enjoyed the actual story line, but the SA and unnecessary gore were not enjoyable (for me).
I loved the use of Indie author books as characters in this story. I haven’t read all of the books mentioned, but I recognized all of the names. Very cool Easter Egg. The narration was on point and voiced expertly.

It’s more than just wrestling!
Revisado: 05-04-24
So I have to be honest. I never would have picked up this book based on two things. I don’t care for wrestling, and I had no idea what a Bladejob was - I had to look it up! I’m saying that to say this. I really liked this story!
I had no idea what to expect when I went in other than it was most likely related to wrestling, and it was probably graphic. Both are true, but it’s a lot more than that. I found myself fully invested in Brian’s fate. I finished the book incredibly fast because I couldn’t stop listening. The narration was excellent!
Check it out!

Don’t Look in the Trees!
Revisado: 05-03-24
This was a great short story. I loved the relationship between the characters and the unknown in the trees. It is especially freaky if you live in the forest!
It’s an Appalachian tale that is a little bit sci-fi and a little bit thriller with a nice reveal. It’s a fast read, and the narration is on point. I enjoyed it!

Gunther by James Kaine
I’ve been looking forward to reading the next installment of My Pet Werewolf, and it definitely did not disappoint! This was a quick read / listen at 98 pages or just over 2 hours on audio. Tom Jordan does a fantastic job with the narration, as usual.
The story moves fast and keeps you hanging on until the last page of the epilogue. Give it a go and check out MPW too so you can get the full story!

Revisado: 04-16-24
This book had me hooked from the start. I knew it was going to be a tough one due to the subject matter, but I ended up finishing it in one day. I had to know how it ended, and it did not disappoint.
I felt all the things with this one. It’s brutal, it’s disturbing, it’s well written, and it has quite a twist.
By the way, how well do you know the people in your children’s lives? You sure?
