Shogun gives a detailed and fascinating window into an amazing time Japanese history.
The story has everything action, strategy, mystery and - of course - romance. If you like dramas with a complex political back drop then Shogun is for you.

Historia
Why are some people so quick to recover from a setback while others wallow in despair? Why are some people so highly attuned to others that they seem psychic, while other people put both feet in it over and over again? Why are some people always up and others always down? In this hotly anticipated book, award-winning, pioneering neuroscientist Richard J. Davidson answers these questions by offering an entirely new model of our emotions - their origins, their power, and their malleability.

Dry and a bit drawn out
Revisado: 11-20-13
What would have made The Emotional Life of Your Brain better?
As a statistician, I am used to dry material. However this material was presented very dryly and a was longer than necessary.
It seems the author tried to both entertain and please the scientific crowd at the same time. The result is likely to fall short on both accounts.
What could Richard J. Davidson and Sharon Begley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
There were many times that the author went on extensively to present data to support hypothesis that many would intuitively know. I understand the value of this but it made the book a bit tedious.
The suggestions for how to impact your own emotion style are a very small portion of the book and are likely to not stand on their own as suggestions.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Emotional Life of Your Brain?
The idea and concepts of the book are in and of themselves interesting. Shortening the book substantially would have made it much more enjoyable.

Another Richard Rohr Classic
Revisado: 10-16-13
Would you listen to Things Hidden again? Why?
Yes, a fresh take on the Bible that makes sense of seeming contradictions in the text.
This book is meant to move you along the path to greater spirituality and a deeper understanding of the Bible. As I travel the path I think I will get more from it each time I listen to it based on where I am at the time.
What did you like best about this story?
Firmly grounded in Christianity but draws on other traditions as well, even if not overtly. Certainly does not give 'good' Christians a pass.
What about John Quigley’s performance did you like?
Well read and paced. John Quigley did a good job but I would have preferred to have Richard read it.

This path to enlightenment, it is taught, requires more than a sitting meditation practice alone. With The Jewel Tree of Tibet, honored scholar and teacher Robert Thurman brings these insights to you as they were meant to be transmitted, through the spoken word.

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Well Done
Revisado: 01-01-12
What did you like best about this story?
Wanting to see the best in everybody, encountering individuals that seemingly just want to inflict as much emotional pain as possible to others is hard to comprehend. This book validates that a significant amount of people actually do act to hurt others just for fun. Several of the examples could have come directly out of my life.
Any additional comments?
I have recommended this audio book to co-workers, friends and family. I consider it to be essential listening for all.
