Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Amazing narration!
Revisado: 11-05-21
Having read Jane Eyre previously, I decided to listed to the Audiobook while on a road trip. Although I had no experience with the narrator, her ability to bring the characters alive was truly astounding and I was entranced from the beginning. I thought the audiobook would simply serve to fill in some otherwise sure to be boring portions of my trip, but instead found myself creating excuses to listen. After finishing the book, I searched for other books that Thandiwe Newton has narrated, but they are precious few. What a gifted individual she is!
In addition to the incredible narration, the content of this book would appeal to anyone who enjoys dramatic novels set in 19th century England (eg Austen). It is told in a 1st person voice, initially from the perspective of an abused child and then a young women striving to survive in an unforgiving world. Her navigation of societal norms while striving to remain true to her inner moral compass rings true even today.

Cuba comes alive
Revisado: 10-14-20
Reading this book made me feel as if I were in Cuba. The author’s voice rings with authenticity, and the narrator’s voice reflects accents and dialect well. Entertaining!
