Historia
Love Is Never Enough explores the most common problems in marriage: the power of negative thinking, disillusionment, rigid rules and expectations, and miscommunication. These issues can be approached through cognitive therapy, in which thinking through and reasoning are used to counteract the poor communication that so often erodes relationships. With eloquence and accessibility, Aaron T. Beck, MD, shows how effective communication can restore and strengthen the ties and bonds between couples.

Useful Moments Were Too Few For Me
Revisado: 06-01-16
What disappointed you about Love Is Never Enough?
The book did not seem very concise, did not flow well for me, and seemed about 4 hours too long.
What was most disappointing about Aaron T. Beck MD’s story?
There are so many different communication examples that I really had a hard time trying to make connections between everything. You also need to listen to 8 hours of problem identification before getting to solutions. I would have preferred to have problems followed by solutions.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I am not very pick about narrators, but he was too feminine for my tastes. I kept think of the Stuart Smalley character.
Any additional comments?
I will freely admit I am not the perfect husband. There were probably 3 or 4 examples from the book that I went "Oh", that is me, and I will use it to improve our relationship. The section on how to be supportive & not totally impartial was the most useful topic for me. Most of the book I found to be a slog that did not strike a chord for me, which made it tough to finish.
My wife, on the other hand, is really enjoying it and seems to connect with it much more than I did. She has some very strong automatic responses, and is learning to see things from a different viewpoint. I am sure she would rate the book much higher than I did.

We've all heard the statistic: Fifty percent of marriages end in divorce. But what if it isn't true? What if, in fact, its not only possible but often easier than you think to save a seemingly troubled relationship? Those are the questions Tara Parker-Pope asked herself after her own divorce. An investigative journalist on the health and wellness beat, she turned to some of the top biologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, and other scientists for answers.

Information Overload
Revisado: 12-02-10
There was so many different risk factors, personality traits, conflict styles, etc, presented in this book it becomes impossible to keep track of everything. I believe there are 19 total "For Better" quizzes. I was excited and eager about the first one; they became boring and mind numbing by the last one.
I did learn some interesting things along the way (my favorite was that hand holding reduces stress for women). By the end there was just too many topics covered that I lost concentration and interest. It was one of the few books I wanted to just reach the end.
I am still not sure how one would apply all the information. Should you try to score high on all 19 quizzes? Which quizzes are most important?

Decline can be avoided. Decline can be detected. Decline can be reversed. Amidst the desolate landscape of fallen great companies, Jim Collins began to wonder: How do the mighty fall? Can decline be detected early and avoided? How far can a company fall before the path toward doom becomes inevitable and unshakable? How can companies reverse course?

I Disliked The Narration
Revisado: 01-31-10
I thought the material in the book was adequate, but the narration just grated on me by the time the book was finished. I just do not believe a book on this topic needs a narrator providing a dramatic reading and sometimes literally yelling the words.
Some people might describe it as enthusiastic and emotional. I found it very distracting and unpleasant. Sometimes it is best if the author does not narrate the book. It is a business book, not a thriller.

The media tells us that "deregulation" and "unfettered free markets" have wrecked our economy and will continue to make things worse without a heavy dose of federal regulation. But the real blame lies elsewhere. In Meltdown, best-selling author Thomas E. Woods, Jr., unearths the real causes behind the collapse of housing values and the stock market---and it turns out the culprits reside more in Washington than on Wall Street.

Sarcasm & Ridicule Abound
Revisado: 04-12-09
If you want to place all of the blame for the current financial crisis on the government and the Federal Reserve you will love this book. I personally liked only the last chapter which dealt with solutions (I agree with them).
I was worn down buy the incessant sarcasm and ridicule. The author is obviously very intelligent and has a vast knowledge of economics. I just do not understand the approach of calling any idea or theory he disagrees with stupid.
I also believe it is too simple to say only the government and the Fed are the sole source of current problems.

Historia
The Bayeux Tapestry is the world's most famous textile: an exquisite 230-foot-long embroidered panorama depicting the events surrounding the Norman Conquest of 1066. It is also one of history's most mysterious and compelling works of art. This haunting stitched account of the battle that redrew the map of medieval Europe has inspired dreams of theft, waves of nationalism, visions of limitless power, and esthetic rapture.

Very Painful Audio Book
Revisado: 03-20-09
It was quite an effort for me to simply finish listening to the entire book. I would say about 30 percent of the book describes the tapestry itself and the rest talks about the history surrounding the tapestry.
When dealing with the tapestry itself, it is impossible to correlate what the book is talking about to my small scale print out of the tapestry. The listener is not able to make any connections between the book and tapestry itself. It also does not help that author describes the tapestry in complete random order. He keeps talking about panels, and the listener has no basis to make a connection.
The author does have a passion for the tapestry, which is enjoyable. I have no idea why someone thought this book would make a good audio book. It did make interested enough to learn the difference between an embroidery and a tapestry and a few other points in the book.
I did want to learn more about the tapestry and I purchased the book "The Bayeux Tapestry" by David M Wilson. This book has half scale color pictures (10" tall) that show all of the beautiful details of the tapestry including the stitching. It is vastly superior to even the images found on the internet.
I suggest skipping this painful audio book, and purchasing the impressive real book.

Barely Able To Listen To The Whole Book
Revisado: 10-01-08
I loved the first two hours and thought it could be a great book. I lost interest in the characters and the storyline after that point. The book describes in great detail the family life of Christian missionaries over two generations. It then goes into painstaking details about daily life in a Thai village for an anthropologist.
Unless you are devoted follower of Christian missionary life or enjoy the subject of anthropology I would recommend passing on this book. How disappointing for what could have been a great book.
