Historia
The year is 1929, and Catherine Christie's world turns upside down when, on her twenty-fifth birthday, she receives a box from her long-dead father containing an explosive secret: that he was a time traveler. In the box is also a medallion that can take her into the past and breadcrumbs to the largest pirate treasure that has ever been lost, a treasure her ancestors have sought for generations.

Engaging Story, But Distracted by Graphic Content
Revisado: 02-07-25
The story itself is engaging and kept me interested, making me want to continue listening to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, the graphic sexual scenes distracted me from the plot. In a world where sexual themes are everywhere, I turn to books for a more beautiful, clean escape, and I found myself wishing for more of that here. There were moments that felt too explicit, pulling me away from the story I was eager to follow. Even the epilogue, which hinted at the next book, began to venture into uncomfortable territory, so I decided to stop there.
It’s disappointing because I would have liked to learn how the story began, but I find it hard to continue with such explicit scenes. We could all use a break from the over-sexualization in media today.
On a positive note, the narrator was absolutely wonderful. Her clear voice and smooth cadence made the listening enjoyable, and she was definitely the highlight of the book for me.
Unfortunately, I won’t be purchasing any more from this series, despite my interest in its origins.

Usually like
Revisado: 11-23-24
I usually like Sarah’s books but this one is not my favorite. From the beginning, it’s completely predictable. I like her other books with more historical information.
The narrator is very good but listening with ear buds is hard. Her voice is quiet most of the time and then the voice gets deep and loud to blow your ears out.

Starts out very interesting
Revisado: 08-11-24
I can’t follow this author anymore. I’ve tried these first 2 books in this series. They both started out so well and I was hooked. I like the Christian aspect and their characters. What gets me is the ending. I’m so invested in the story plot and it just ends. The story doesn’t slow to explain all the issues and close them out. It just ends and they kiss and plan to live happily ever after. I care less about the love interest and want to understand the plot closure better.
The narrator is clear and easy to understand but she has the women with lower voices than the men and pauses in the middle of sentences where it sounds like she’s ending the sentence. It’s very distracting.

Love time travel
Revisado: 05-18-24
The narrator has a great voice that makes the story come alive. The main character is strong and at times funny. Sometimes I felt that she should have known things when he character changed and she seemed dense. I wish her character had stayed the same throughout. The story is so engaging that I didn’t want to stop listening. I was sad when it was over. I want to know the rest of the story.
I did t care for the second narrator so I didn’t listen to that book.

My first Amish story. Been hooked ever since.
Revisado: 12-04-23
I listened to this book a couple of years ago. Now that I’m listening to it again, I know why I listen to most books on slow speed. The narrator talks slowly wishing i personally prefer. I listen to relax and this slow narration helps me to wind down. I didn’t have to slow this speed at all. This book is clean, sweet, and relaxing. I like how the characters continue into her other books.

Not just for children
Revisado: 11-13-23
Though this is written for children it is enjoyed by adults as well. I’ve been to Letchworth State Park many times and seen Mary’s statue. Now I know the story behind her. Well written account of her early life. The narrator is east to listen to and uses many voices well.

Enjoyed the series but unrealistic
Revisado: 04-08-23
While I did enjoy the series, I realized when I had 2 and a half hours left that the ending would just magically make all the drama go away so the story could have a happy ending. That’s exactly what happened. Several aspects just magically went away. And then it was over. The story is fun but very unrealistic.

Historia
Allie Kirkland has never been one to take wild risks. But when she's offered a costuming assistant's job on a docudrama in the hills near Moses Lake, she jumps at the chance. She's always dreamed of following in her director-father's footsteps, and the reenactment of the legendary frontier settlement of Wildwood is a first step. The family expectations will have to wait. But in 1861, the real Wildwood held dangerous realities. Town founder Harland Delevan held helpless residents, including young Irish schoolteacher Bonnie Rose, in an iron grip.

I enjoyed this book. I kept wanting to listen but had to work. Bummer. The narrator has a good even tone for listening at night before bed.
