Great cosy mystery, but about nuts…
Revisado: 11-25-24
I enjoyed the narrator’s wonderful Irish accent! The story was intriguing, as usual with this series. But an interesting thing about nuts- the story mentioned that one of the women had a deathly reaction to tree nuts. And then there was great concern that a man had a package of peanuts in his pocket…
Peanuts are not nuts! They are legumes. (Beans) The reason I know this is that about half of my family is allergic to peanuts and the other half is allergic to tree nuts. Our doctor explained the difference between the two! (So if you’re ever writing a mystery involving nuts… you’re in the know!)

Interesting plot
Revisado: 11-02-24
There is one thing about this series that I would love to see changed. The author spends a bit too much time trying to catch people up, if they haven’t read previous books. The background of each character is spelled out over and over in each book of the series. I’ve noticed other authors weave those details in rather skillfully and succinctly, not in a way that has me fast forwarding 30 seconds each time. Otherwise, I enjoy the series!

I’m becoming hooked…
Revisado: 10-15-24
The series is growing on me even more as I listen along! It’s a different format than I am used to and I like how there is not so much discussion regarding all the potential suspects. The personal story is being developed along with the mysteries in an enjoyable way. It’s a terrific blend of a love story and old family history and current mysteries that need solving.

Historia
In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour. Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined.

Easy to follow along, but still has enjoyable twists
Revisado: 10-13-24
The narration is excellent, and the developing storyline of Al loving his new life is fun.
I’ve never listened to short story series, but I’ve enjoyed this one and plan to listen to the next set of three!

Not my favorite of the series
Revisado: 10-10-24
The family of the bride to be was so odd. The mother was mentally ill and so cruel that I couldn’t relate to her at all
It was difficult to listen to her and all that she did to her husband and children. I did like the twist at the end, though! I’ll miss “Chrissie” while I wait on the next book in the series to be available!

Christopher and Grandfather make a unique pair for a cosy mystery
Revisado: 09-29-24
I like having a new type of protagonist - a young man who is self deprecating, humorous, and very innocent at 16, and 17 years old. I like that he is not growing up too quickly despite working with his brilliant grandfather to solve crimes apart from, and in conjunction with the police! I begin the next book as soon as I finish one!

Historia
There's a damsel in distress and accusations of attempted murder flying around, but it's not in the comfortable confines of the English countryside; it's in the very distant city of Damascus. Lennox must go and investigate, although he's not too keen on exotic locations, and his old retainer Greggs is distinctly averse to the very idea. Nevertheless, ex-Chief Inspector Swift persuades them, and they reach the ancient city to discover a movie crew, a spy, and a couple of mysterious ladies.

Great mix of story and narrator!
Revisado: 09-12-24
I LOVE the subtle humor in the book, and the interesting words and phrases used in the 1920’s. The story was enjoyable and I never figured out “who dunnit”!
I can’t say enough about the narrator. I normally prefer English women as narrators, but this Australian man seems to be able to create characters from all over the globe and at every level of society. I just hope the series continues to go on for quite a while!

The ending was a good one
Revisado: 07-31-24
I'm still struggling with knowing the difference between male characters. She makes a wonderful narrator and does a great job as Kitty, and a few others are well done. But her Scottish characters sound awful and it takes me out of the story. I just love a good performer! It adds sooo much to the enjoyment of the book!

My least favorite story but still enjoyable
Revisado: 07-28-24
I've mentioned before that the narrator sounds much the same when it's Matt and the now Chief Inspector. It's frustrating to have to wait for context clues to know who is talking. In this book, Matt's Aunt always sounded like a man, so I was confused a few times as to who was speaking.
The person who ended up being the killer had a kind of twisted reasoning and I couldn't find it believable. Other than that, it was the usual enjoyable cosy mystery set in the mid 1930's!

Spring, 1935. Newlywed Kitty Underhay has been enlisted by her old nemesis Mrs. Craven to help organize the Miss Dartmouth Jubilee pageant at the Dolphin Hotel. Being bossed around by her arch enemy is not quite what Kitty had in mind for the start of her married life, but she’s excited to launch the glamorous show. Sparkling smiles are quickly replaced by audible gasps, however, when one of the girls goes missing during the interval....

Love the historical details woven in
Revisado: 07-27-24
I admit that I find myself stopping and Googling during this series to find out what items mentioned looked like. For example, Kitty's car and Matt's motorcycle were quite easy to find and it gives me a better visual of the goings on in the books. I've also looked up recipes, buildings and clothing styles.
I enjoy the stories and the relationships within them, and the narration is mostly just right. I say mostly because I still can't tell the difference between many of the men's voices, especially Matt's and the Inspector's.
I highly recommend the entire series if you enjoy cosy historical fiction mysteries!
