I wanted to like this….

I enjoyed that this wasn’t just a paranormal romance. It has a bit of cozy mystery wrapped into it. But dear me, I don’t know if the author could have created a more annoying and obstinate main character. The FMC is supposed to be well-educated and a lawyer. She acts like a spoiled child with no common sense. I am about ready to pull my hair out.

And her love interest starts to lose his charm. He is supposed to be an alpha, but has no follow through with his orders which results in his mate being continuously bullied by one character.

Not my cup of tea

I love romance novels and am currently back on a historical romance kick. However, I don’t love this novel.

There was too much misogny and subservience. I know that can be par for the course with this genre but this was a bit much.

And how India just forgives her parents….really?!!! It is unbelievable how India is written to be a strong character and then just folds throughout the book.

Just No!!!!!

I usually don’t leave book reviews or a rating if I don’t care for a book. I respect an author’s talent and creativity even if the book wasn’t to my liking.

However, this book should have come with a sexual assault warning. I don’t think I made it through a quarter of the book before (what I am assuming will be) the lead’s love interest has sexually assaulted her three times. I know she is going to be raped by the way this book is going.

The official warning is “contains sexually explicit scenes and adult language.” I was excited about that warning…..a book can’t have too much steam in my opinion. However, if sexual assault is going to be a doninant part of your story, then please reference that for your readers. A dominant alpha character does not in my mind correlate with a rapist.

The performance was great. And the story started out being interesting until the theme of this book could no longer be ignored.

Surprisingly Great!

I admit I was expecting the cliche romantic comedy. However, this book was witty, charming and the characters had depth.

I laughed out loud so many times. I can’t wait to try another book by this author.

The narration was awesome!

When did Kristan’s heroines become so annoying.....

This is the second book of Kristan’s I have TRIED to listen to this week. I remember really enjoying her Blue Heron books. I kept having to fast forward through all the inner dialogue. It hard to like a heroine who is completely out of touch with reality to the point where you don’t like her character. Am I missing something.....is
an obsession with a priest funny? Her actions and words just made me want to cringe.

This wasn’t my cup of tea. Colton comes off as sexually aggressive and shallow. Overtly pressuring a woman to have sex is not sexy.

I really enjoyed this book. It is addicting. Can’t wait to start the next book.


The narrator was a bit annoying. She starts talking really fast for no reason and then slows back down again. I moved past it pretty quick because I enjoyed the plot!

Maybe I am getting too old to enjoy the YA genre.

First, I am giving this book four stars because I did not finish the book. I didn’t want to lower the ratings when I was maybe missing out on a fantastic ending. However, halfway through the book it really doesn’t deserve higher than a 3.

I know a lot of reviewers had issues with the narration. I thought that was a better part of the book.

Spoilers below:
I had a really hard time liking Levi at all. The author was trying to make him an alpha male character, but half the time I was cringing! He came off sleazy and was pressuring Allie in a way that was not sexy or assertive but sexually aggressive.

Also, did anyone else wonder why she is being timid and pretty much apologizing for going into the basement?! It is her dad’s hotel. Maybe this is because this is a YA novel, but a lot of the book just made me shake my head.

I read this book because of all the great reviews. But it moved a little too slow for me. The narrator was not my cup of tea either. Her emphasis and articulation of words were a bit odd. I think she was trying to make everything sound more lustful and dramatic.

Anyhow, you will probably like this book like the majority of audible readers! There were some steamy moments.
