Historia
Maisie Dobbs got her start as a maid in an aristocratic London household when she was thirteen. Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan’s friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts. The outbreak of war changed everything. Ten years after the Armistice, in the spring of 1929, Maisie sets out on her own as a private investigator, one who has learned that coincidences are meaningful, and truth elusive.

A great story teller an excellent reader
Revisado: 03-01-23
Refreshing to hear a story about an honest person, with real intelligence and respect for others. No sex or foul language, just an intriguing plot with realistic characters. Not too many characters either, so the reader does not get confused or have to make a list of “who’s who.” I will buy this author’s books again.

Historia
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

Eye opening
Revisado: 06-23-22
Philip Yancy gives us insight into his fundamentalist, fatherless childhood and how God gracefully reached into his life bringing peace, direction and love. This book is well written and a “page turner.” I can identify with the time frame of his story, but had much to learn from his southern point of view during that time. Thanks so much for your honesty, Mr. Yancy.

Thandie Newton can read for me anytime
Revisado: 01-21-17
Although wordy, this book is excellent. It kept me on the edge of my seat at times. The descriptions of the landscape and of the homes and of the people were second to none. I thought I was there. Thandy had a huge part in the story coming alive for me.

Revisado: 06-24-15
Because this booked flipped through time a lot, listening to it was challenging at first. The talented reader helped in this regard. The story was riveting, a well spun historical novel. I enjoyed spending several days, including a road trip, with these characters.

This did not hole my interest
Revisado: 06-03-15
What would have made A Day to Pick Your Own Cotton better?
This book did not hold my interest. I suppose the characters are at fault I could not identify with them at all. I usually like historical novels.
Has A Day to Pick Your Own Cotton turned you off from other books in this genre?
I think this book did not move along fast enough for me.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Performance was okay. I really could not find fault with it, I would listen to another book by this actor.
