Historia
In 2019, a Chinese entity called Tencent overtook Facebook to become the world's fifth-largest company. It was a watershed moment, a wake-up call for those in the West accustomed to regarding the global tech industry through the prism of Silicon Valley: Facebook, Google, Apple and Microsoft. Yet to many of the two billion-plus people who live just across the Pacific Ocean, it came as no surprise at all.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 02-08-25
I bought it out of curiosity. It is a very well written story of Chinese tech. One might think it is irrelevant or distant subject but not at all. Recommended.

Nothing special.
Revisado: 02-02-25
Ok.. Well written, but nothing special. It is narrated by the author who is probably in his eighties. He sounds tired and staccato. I would recommend you read the book instead of listening.

Historia
A vast and largely unseen transformation of how war is fought as profound as the invention of gunpowder or advent of the nuclear age is occurring. Flying cars that can land like helicopters, artificial intelligence-powered drones that can fly into buildings and map their interiors, microsatellites that can see through clouds and monitor rogue missile sites—all these and more are becoming part of America’s DIU-fast-tracked arsenal. Until recently, the Pentagon was known for its uncomfortable relationship with Silicon Valley and for slow-moving processes that acted as a brake on innovation.

I was hoping to learn something about technology and war. There is none of that here. It is a business story book..., a boring one.

Interesting subject. Mediocrly written with too much dependence on anecdotes and other minor stories in order to fill the pages. Narration is not the best.

Historia
In Kaput, Wolfgang Münchau argues that the weaknesses of Germany's economy have, in fact, been brewing for decades. The neo-mercantilist policies of the German state, driven by close connections between the country's industrial and political elite, have left Germany technologically behind over-reliant on authoritarian Russia and China—and with little sign of being able to adapt to the digital realities of the 21st century. It is an essential read for anyone interested in the future of Europe's biggest economy.

Historia
The Talmud says: “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first.” This instinct to take every measure, even the most aggressive, to defend the Jewish people is hardwired into Israel’s DNA. From the very beginning of its statehood in 1948, protecting the nation from harm has been the responsibility of its intelligence community and armed services, and there is one weapon in their vast arsenal that they have relied upon to thwart the most serious threats: Targeted assassinations have been used countless times, on enemies large and small....

Historia
The Racket is the story of pro tennis's 99%: the players who roam the globe in hope of climbing the rankings and squeaking into the Grand Slam tournaments. It brings us into a world where a few dozen super-rich players - travelling with coaches and physios - share a stage with lonely touring pros whose earnings barely cover their expenses. Painting a vivid picture of the social dynamics on tour, the economics of the game, and the shadows cast by gambling and doping, The Racket is a witty and revealing underdog's memoir and a unique look inside a fascinating hidden world.

Stating the obvious.
Revisado: 09-24-24
Harare knows how to tell story, even when he has little to say. This is the case of this book. It is a flop. It is made of a series of historical anecdotes that don’t add to a thesis. Check for example the lengthy section on Soviet totalitarianism. It feels he is just filling pages — and he does it well. I got the impression that he wrote this book in rush just to fulfill a book deal.

Historia
Hans Castorp is, on the face of it, an ordinary man in his early 20s, on course to start a career in ship engineering in his home town of Hamburg, when he decides to travel to the Berghof Santatorium in Davos. The year is 1912 and an oblivious world is on the brink of war. Castorp’s friend Joachim Ziemssen is taking the cure and a three-week visit seems a perfect break before work begins. But when Castorp arrives he is surprised to find an established community of patients, and little by little, he gets drawn into the closeted life and the individual personalities of the residents.

Ramblings
Revisado: 09-24-24
I don’t get all the hype. The book is an endless ramblings around minute and grand themes. I wouldn't call it "philosophical" by any extent.
It is too long to follow. But this is a typical early modernist literature and should be understood according to literary historical context. Narration is the best apsect of it.
