This book will be made into an action sooner or later. The action is nonstop, intense, and violent. I am glad i listened to the audible version instead of reading it. The narration is first-rate. This is an adrenaline rush from beginning to end. If you are looking for entertainment that you can get lost in, and you enjoy this genre, you cannot go wrong with this book.

I enjoy Eisler's John Rain series as much as any in this genre. This book is my favorite of the series. John Rain, the ultimate assassin, assembles a group of killers who are as dangerous to each other as they are to their targets. The action is nonstop. The plot is fairly predictable, but fun. I listen to books while driving or exercising. i had difficulty putting this one aside, however. The story and performance were absorbing.

The narration was excellent. Voices and accents were dead on. I was worried that an author reading his own work would not be as exciting as some of th eprofessional narrators. Eisler, however, rivaled my favorite thriller narrators, Guidall and Brick, and gave a superb performance of this book. I can't imagine that it could have been done better.

I really enjoyed this book, and recommend it to anyone who likes to listen to this genre.

This book is a wonderful work of historical fiction. The southern characters are well-developed, without making them into stereotypes. the action at the first battle of bull run is exciting, and accurate for the period. this is an excellent book, with a genuine flavor for the time in which it is set. the narrator is excellent with his voices. the book has been a pleasure to listen to. i look forward to the rest of the series.

A near perfect thriller

The Lion's Game is probably the very best audio book I have ever purchased. I have purchased several hundred, most of them from the "mysteries & thrillers" category, and I do not make this statement lightly. DeMille is one of the best writers in this category, but I had never listened to an audio version of one of his books. I did not realize that this book was 10 years old, and was disappointed to realize this after i purchased it. The disappointment did not last long, however. The story was believable, yet fantastic, at the same time. The characters were well-developed and there was plenty of action. The main character is funny, most of the characters are bright, and my interest never waned. Scott Brick, who is excellent in all of his narrations (I have heard several), shines in this performance. He captures the main character perfectly, with exactly the right voices and inflections to make this book a joy to listen to. The combination of great writer and great narrator makes this book truly entertaining and fun. I highly recommend this book. If you have not tried this category of book before, this is the book to start with. If you like mysteries & thrillers already, then this is bound to be one of your top 10 books.

action packed foray into speculative archeology

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-18-10

This book is full of action, enough speculative archeology and history to make one want to read more about some of the topics covered. This story is better than the first book with the same characters. the narrator is excellent, and somehow manages to find different voices and accents for all of the characters. enjoyable.

I am addicted to audio books, and have listened to hundreds of them. Cornwell is one of the very best writers of historical fiction. This book is full of action, with vivid descriptions of battles, a solid story line, and well-developed characters. I was entertained throughout the entire book. Narration was excellent. Cornwell has the ability to make me feel like i'm back in time. He has a unique way of helping the reader understand everyday life, in the 800's, in the context of action and intrigue. It never drags. This book, like AGINCOURT, is an excellent book, and the narration is so good that I would recommend the audible version over print. I highly recommend this book.

another hit for berenson

The Silent Man has plenty of action and interesting characters. The main character has appeared in two of the author's previous books, both of which are excellent. The story follows the plot line from the previous book, but this book stands alone quite well. The previous story is explained, without being tedious, in the context of the present, and there will be no problem for the reader who is unfamiliar with this character. Guidall is my favorite narrator for this genre, and he does a fine job with this book. 5 stars!

The Bickersons Hunt a Killer

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 05-08-09

I should begin by saying that I have been a huge fan of this author for years. This particular book is, however, a disappointment. The plot is interesting and the narrator is excellent. The characters are, however, obnoxious, and they bicker constantly. Emily, the beautiful, smart heroine is kidnapped and her colleague is tortured to death. Garrett, the dark, strong, brilliant, rich, dangerous type rescues Emily from a similar fate. When he sees bite marks on her nipples, he vows to help her kill her kidnapper. The rest of the book is like a bad episode of "I Love Lucy". Garrett, a killer himself, wants to kill the bad guy, but Emily just wants to be in the show. Every time Garrett makes a move without Emily's permission, she bickers, pulls back, pouts, until he apologizes. Probably the most common word in Emily's vocabulary is "No". She is demanding, unlikeable, and the bickering is constant. The dialogue detracts from the plot. The characters are exactly the same as Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn, and the dialogue is almost lifted from the author's last book, Quicksand. I read for entertainment, often to avoid bickering and arguing in my own life. This book was obnoxious. I wish Joe Quinn would shoot Emily, or Garrett would shoot Eve Duncan. And then Joe and Garrett could shoot each other. "No! Not without Emily/Eve's permission!" She pulled away from his touch...Maybe it's just chick-fiction, and I don't get it. I'll probably buy the next book this author writes, because I have enjoyed so many of her novels in the past. I will not, however, devote as much time to a book with this much dialogue.

My New Favorite Author

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 03-08-09

I was totally immersed in Agincourt. I love historical fiction, but for some reason, the titles of this author's books haven't appealed to me, and I had not read any of them. This book, along with the narration, kept me completely immersed in the story. The characters are engaging, the historical detail is superb, without being burdensome, the action is sharp and nearly non-stop, and the story is engaging. This is my new favorite author, and this narrator is perfect for this book. Agincourt is well worth the money and the time. I was so tense, at times, that I had to stop listening in the car. This book is "educational" and, best of all, fun.
