Profanity-laced urban saga. No thanks.

Rarely do I NOT finish a story. Two minutes worth of listening, the cursing and urban slang irritated me. I don't care what this story is about. It's laced with distracting unnecessary name calling, expletives and frequent use of urban stereotypes. I'm not impressed at all.

A sensitive, heartbreaking story.

Mr. Iweala has penned a poignant, touching and thoughtful story of one young man's search for identity. Prentice Onayemi's excellent narration, as usual, gives the story even more credibility. There were moments I felt such a sense of compassion for the protagonist. Mr. Onayemi's varied accents and vocal characterizations were realistic and spot on. Kudos to the author and narrators. I hope in the future there'll be a movie based on the book.

Moments of true terror.

Unlike some of my other Audible choices, this short story wasn't a snooze. Although the narration was acceptable, the vocal characterizations were somewhat amateurish.

IMHO Past boring.

I listened to the Family Show at bedtime, wanting to hear a soothing voice before slumbering. I didn't laugh once before I fell asleep. I woke an hour later to him singing what sounded like country. Yes, the audience clapped and shouted, but I couldn't understand why. I was relaxed while listening and found his material to be at best boring and corny. I seldom rate Audible pieces so low. I'm open to new ways of expression. This piece, however, was a real snooze.

I listened to this story before sleeping necessitating rewinding the following day. I couldn't bear to miss any clue or important detail. The story`s end is surprising. Decent performance and story.

An odd performance

I thought I was being too critical after listening to True West. There were moments of clarity, crispness and anticipation. However, there were unusual sound effects, background music and moments where there weren't. There were frequent gaps in dialogue where you wondered if you had missed something. This was, at best, an odd performance, neither good nor the worst I've heard from Audible. However, as others have stated, I'm glad it was a "free" selection.

It is rumored that Mr. Gray, Pastor, bought his spouse a Lamborghini and adorns himself in $5,000 sneakers. Spreading God's word as well as bearing his kingdom fruit shouldn't be a scam, a con or a hustle. Perhaps there is profiting in spiritual ministry, hopefully for spiritual benefit rather than financial. I was midway through the book, yet I doubt I'll finish it. Our works should be a reflection of our faith. As of April 2019, Mr. Gray is also accused of adultery by the Lamborghini owner. Let ye without sin cast the first stone. Ooops, I already threw a rock.

Chasing the American Dream

BTD is another story about an immigrant family's quest for the American Dream. It's poignant in light of today's immigration issues. Many come to America to pursue prosperity, freedom, comfort and security. But what price do individuals' pay to fulfill their dreams? Prentice Onayemi has such a soothing voice. His many accents and knowledge of native and non native idioms give much credibility to the story's narration. BTD demonstrates the daily fears and worries of immigrants, especially those who've entered the U.S. without proper documentation or without approval. Mr. Mbue demonstrates sensitivity, compassion and knowledge of the fight and plight of immigrant families.
