Historia
It is April 1943, and Marine aviator Cletus Frade, Army demolition's wizard Anthony Pelosi, and communications expert David Ettinger are thrust again into the lethal nest of intrigue that is wartime Buenos Aires. A clandestine German vessel sets sail to resupply submarines in the South Atlantic...as a massive shipment of money earmarked for postwar Reich makes its way to South America...and a coup designed to topple the government reaches critical mass. In the midst of it all, the German-ordered assassination of Cletus Frade's father demands only one response: revenge.

Great Story! Turn Speed Up to 1.35
Revisado: 02-09-24
Griffin does not disappoint. The Argentina series has long been among my favorite reads. The action, intrigue and romance are non-stop. That said, the narration nearly ruins the entire experience of this book. Turn up the speed to at least 1.25. I found 1.35 the perfect speed for the this reader otherwise he becomes painfully boring to listen to. Honestly his voice could become a miracle cure for insomnia.

Historia
Spartacus, a fictionalization of a slave revolt in ancient Rome in 71 BC, is well known today because of the 1960 movie starring Kirk Douglas and Laurence Olivier. It was originally published in 1951 by Fast himself, after being turned down by every mainstream publisher of the day because of Fast's blacklisting for his Communist Party sympathies. The story of Spartacus, born a slave, trained as a gladiator, who led a slave revolt that was eventually put down by Crassus, was immensely popular and went on to sell millions of copies.

Narrator does an excellent job. Effortless switch between Latin and English. Make the characters come alive especially Livonia and Spartacus.

Just why do humpback whales sing? That's the question that has marine behavioral biologist Nate Quinn and his crew poking, charting, recording, and photographing very big, wet, gray marine mammals - until the extraordinary day when a whale lifts its tail into the air to display a cryptic message spelled out in foot-high letters: Bite Me.

"Fluke" is a wonderfully fascinating tale that is only made better by the narrator. Great voices. His overall sound is Henry Fonda-ish. If you don't you love humpies before "Fluke" you will after hearing Kona's childlike wonder.

Tim Curry reads the classic tale by Dickens & brings it to life. I haven't enjoyed hearing ACC so much in a very long time. Curry truly does his material justice.

The Roswell Conspiracy from a whole new look
Revisado: 11-02-22
“Noir" by Christopher Moore. It's 1947 San Francisco. Sammy “2-toes" a bartender and his girlfriend Stilton “Don't call me Toots!” Aka “The Cheese.” Battle crooked cops, the Bohemian Club, a corrupt General and a cranky Black Mamba to rescue a kidnapped hooker and free ET. Written in a style reminiscent of Raymond Chandler, this is a light-hearted tale that will have you rethinking the Roswell Story.

Good telling of the Robin Hood Tale

It was an adaptation from the screenplay. If you saw the movie there weren't any surprises or spoilers. If you enjoyed the film you'll enjoy the book. The narrator does a good job with the material.

Revisado: 10-06-22
From start to finish this is one of Christopher Moore's best tales. The narrator does a smashing job with the characters. His inflection, cadence and flow is flawless. Another fine addition to my Moore collection.

It is the fall of 1950. The Marines have made a pivotal breakthrough at Inchon, but a roller coaster awaits them. The bit in his teeth, Douglas MacArthur is intent on surging across the 38th parallel toward the Yalu River, where he is certain no Chinese are waiting for him, while Major Ken McCoy, operating undercover, hears a different story entirely, and is just as intent on nailing down the truth before it is too late.

Leaves you hanging at the end
Revisado: 03-02-22
It's W.E.B. Griffin so what's not to love? "Retreat Hell" was excellent in most respects. The audio book presentation was first rate. My biggest peeve with the story is with the M-26. The M-26 is a Pershing, not a Patton. The Patton's were M-46 and M-48 tanks.
