From Moon Unit Zappa, the daughter of musical visionary Frank Zappa, comes a memoir of growing up in her unconventional household in 1970s Los Angeles, coming of age in the Hollywood Hills in the 1980s as the “Valley Girl,” gaining momentum as an accidental VJ on a new network called MTV, and finding herself after losing her father, then her mother, and the testing of her most important relationships.

What a loving and painful glimpse
Revisado: 10-22-24
I couldn’t stop listening to this memoir! As a Zappa fan, you’d expect unconventional family stories but this was more extreme than I thought it would be. I’ve heard Moon on podcasts and was anxious to read this. I enjoyed this but it broke my heart too. I highly recommend this memoir.

Historia
Maria Bamford is a comedian’s comedian (an outsider among outsiders) and has forever fought to find a place to belong. From struggling with an eating disorder as a child of the 1980s, to navigating a career in the arts (and medical debt and psychiatric institutionalization), she has tried just about every method possible to not only be a part of the world, but to want to be a part of it. In Bamford’s “trademark blend of disarming intimacy and dark whimsy” (Publishers Weekly), Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult brings us on a quest to participate in something.

I’ve always loved her comedy, but Maria Bamford tells her story with humor and heartbreak. It was a great listen 😊

Brilliant book by a brave patriot!
Revisado: 10-10-23
This brave young woman stood up to the monster that the Republican Party has become, and the ignorant fool that they worship. This was so interesting from the beginning to the end. I hope there’s room in politics for strong people with honor and dignity again some day soon. Everyone should read this book.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Great, honest story of her life so far. Loved it!
Revisado: 09-24-23
I loved Jinger’s book so I was anxious to read this one. Jill is painfully honest about what she went through, and explains clearly why she did what she did with her family ties. Both girls still love their family and will continue to love God and grow their own families. They will survive their trauma and thrive ❤️❤️❤️

Great true story
Revisado: 02-04-23
Whether you watched 19 Kids and Counting or not, this is a true story of cult teaching. Jinger is honest and lays out clearly the teaching of Bill Gothard vs what the Bible actually says. I really enjoyed this.

This book explains so much!
Revisado: 07-20-20
This should be required reading for everyone that votes. Our broken political system aside, this book honestly and clearly explains the “why” behind the grandiosity, the lies, the inability to admit wrong that we see every day by the president of the United States. It also points out some of the real dangers that could be caused by such a man. Excellent book!

A great testimonial and story
Revisado: 01-12-19
I bought this book a while ago and really regret not reading it sooner! I’m a Christian but I didn’t mind his agnostic stance, and I’m excited to attempt putting meditation into practice (even if it’s only a few minutes at a time). Dan Harris used interesting and personal stories as examples of the changes meditation made for him.
